My
Worship Time Focus: Jesus
Christ the High Priest we Need
Bible
Reading & Meditation Reference: Hebrews 7:26
1. Message of the verse: “26 For it was fitting that we should have
such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and
exalted above the heavens;” (NASB). “He is the kind of high priest we need
because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has now been set apart from sinners, and
he has been given the highest place of honor in heaven.” (NLT)
The description
of Jesus Christ as High Priest in this verse is given because He is without
sin, and that cannot be said of the OT priests, for they were merely men and
they were born, just like all men with a sin nature, and thus they sinned. Jesus Christ was suited to meet our need
because He was without sin. He is holy,
“1) undefiled by sin, free from wickedness, religiously observing every moral
obligation, pure holy, pious.” He is
innocent, or as the KJV says harmless, “1) without guile or fraud, harmless,
free from guilt.” He is undefiled, “1)
not defiled, unsoiled 1a) free from that by which the nature of a thing is
deformed and debased, or its force and vigour impaired.” He is separated from sinners because of His
position, exalted to the right hand of the Father in heaven. While Jesus Christ walked the earth He was a
friend of sinners as described in Matt. 9:10, 11:19. However even though He had contact with the
sinners it was without contamination. He
was not isolated; He was separated.
2. Spiritual meaning for my life today: The things that are said of Jesus Christ in
this verse will be true of all of us believers when we get to heaven with the
exception of the exalted position He has at the right hand of His Father. In position believers today are holy,
innocent, undefiled, but we are not separated from sinners. The thing that I have learned, or have been
reminded of in this verse, is that I too am to be in contact with sinners for
the sake of befriending them to give them the message of salvation, but I am
not to be contaminated by them. I am to
be in the world but not of the world.
The Word of God has brought conviction to my heart, and
also has challenged me.
My
Steps of Faith Today: To be in
the world but not of the world, to trust the Lord for safety and all the other
aspects of having a good vacation with Sandy.
To trust the Lord to get me over to EMH to work out without problems
with IBS, and to have a profitable time with the men at the Bible study this
afternoon.
Memory verses for the week:
Psalm 40:1-6
1. I waited
patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
2. He
brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; And he set
my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
3. And He
put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and
fear, And will trust in the LORD.
4. How
blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, And has not turned to the
proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.
5. Many, O
LORD my God, are the wonders that Thou hast done, And Thy thoughts toward us;
There is none to compare with Thee; If I would declare and speak of them, they
would be too numerous to count.
6. Sacrifice
and meal offering Thou hast not desire; My ears Thou hast opened; Burnt
offering and sin offering Thou hast not required.
