SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The site, materials, and workers

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1Chron. 22:1-4

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Then David said, "This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel." 2  So David gave orders to gather the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, and he set stonecutters to hew out stones to build the house of God. 3  David prepared large quantities of iron to make the nails for the doors of the gates and for the clamps, and more bronze than could be weighed; 4  and timbers of cedar logs beyond number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought large quantities of cedar timber to David.”

This SD begins the last chapter in Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on 2Samuel and parts of 1Chronicles.  This chapter in his book covers 1Chronicles 22-29 as the book of 2Samuel is now finished with the last chapter of his commentary.  The first main section in his commentary had no Scripture reference to it and so I read it yesterday afternoon.  Dr. Wiersbe commented on the fact that David was preparing to build the Temple of God, but knew that God had chosen Solomon to actually build this temple, but the preparation was a big part of the job and David undertook this part of the project, and I believe one reason for this is because that Solomon was young when he became king.  Dr. Wiersbe points out that even though these chapters are full of names it is important to know who these people were, especially to those who returned from the Babylonian because these people who did the work on this first temple were from certain tribes and had different duties and to those returning this was information that they needed.  He also points out that there are similar things used from building this Temple of God that are needed to build the local churches today.  Paul writes that the local church should be built with gold, silver and jewels and not with wood, hay and straw, and so this temple was built with gold, silver, and jewels, things that took hard work to find, but things that lasted.  Anyone can find wood, hay, and straw, but it takes work to find gold, silver, and jewels thus it is the Word of God that contains this gold, silver, and jewels and that is what the local church is built on.

When the Lord sent fire to consume the burnt offering that was offered by David on what was known as Mount Moriah, the place where Abraham offered his son Isaac to the Lord as a burnt offering, but the Lord stopped him and provided a lamb in his place, this is where David knew that the temple had to be built.  David stopped going to the tabernacle at Gibeon and began to offer sacrifices here where he knew that God wanted His Temple built.

David began to gather the people to build this temple and part of the workers were “gentiles” but they were not slaves of the people of Israel.  By having these gentile workers it shows that the temple was for all and not just for the Jews.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  It took many years and much hard work to have this temple of the Lord built and this again reminds me of how much work it takes to be a part of a local church, to help in the building of a local church, for it takes much studying and digging in the Word of God each and every day in order to mine the gold, silver, and precious jewels in order to understand how this church is to operate, for it is in the Word of God that shows all of these things.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Trust the Lord for the outcome of the physical problem that I now have, that it will be good for me and bring glory to the Lord.

2.      Trust the Lord to guide me and direct my path in all that I do today and every day of my life.

3.      Be protected by the Spiritual Armor.
