SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  The leaders of Israel

Bible Reading & Meditation                                              Reference:  1Chron. 22:17-19

Message of the verses:  “17 ¶  David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon, saying, 18  "Is not the LORD your God with you? And has He not given you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land is subdued before the LORD and before His people. 19  "Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise, therefore, and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the LORD.’”

The word rest is used here in verse eighteen, and it was also used in verse nine, and also in 23:25.  David is referring to the rest that God has given to his people from the wars that David had fought and won, and now the Lord was giving Israel a time of rest in order for them to build this temple for the glory of the Lord.  In yesterday’s SD I mentioned a passage that is found in the book of Deuteronomy chapter twelve and verses eight through fourteen which was actually a prophecy of the event that David is talking about, the time of rest, the moving of the ark to a place in the land of Israel that the Lord had chosen, a place where all Israel would come to offer sacrifices to the Lord and to worship in the temple of the Lord and now that time has come about for the nation of Israel through David and his son Solomon.

There is another phrase that stands out to me and certainly has application for my life even today and that is the phrase “Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God, therefore, and build the sanctuary of the Lord God--.”  David is telling the leaders to support Solomon, to remember that God has given them rest, and to be strong and help Solomon build this temple for the Lord and for the glory of the Lord.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The application for my life today from this passage in verse nineteen is to set my heart and my soul to seek the Lord my God in order to build up the body of Christ through helping others grow in their faith and also pray that the Lord would bring others into my path so that I can tell them the good news of Jesus Christ.  However first I must set my heart and soul to seek the Lord my God, to confess my sins before Him and to continue to study His Word and pray that the Holy Spirit who live within me will make me into a vessel that will serve the Lord and be all that He wants me to be.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      To seek the Lord my God.

2.      To remember the words of verses 23 and 24 of Psalm 139:  “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”
