SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  Solomon the builder

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                             Reference:  1Chron. 22:5-16

Message of the verses:  “5  David said, "My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the LORD shall be exceedingly magnificent, famous and glorious throughout all lands. Therefore now I will make preparation for it." So David made ample preparations before his death.

“ 6 ¶  Then he called for his son Solomon, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel. 7  David said to Solomon, "My son, I had intended to build a house to the name of the LORD my God. 8  "But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ’You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house to My name, because you have shed so much blood on the earth before Me. 9  ’Behold, a son will be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days. 10  ’He shall build a house for My name, and he shall be My son and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’ 11  "Now, my son, the LORD be with you that you may be successful, and build the house of the LORD your God just as He has spoken concerning you. 12  "Only the LORD give you discretion and understanding, and give you charge over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God. 13  "Then you will prosper, if you are careful to observe the statutes and the ordinances which the LORD commanded Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous, do not fear nor be dismayed. 14  "Now behold, with great pains I have prepared for the house of the LORD 100,000 talents of gold and 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron beyond weight, for they are in great quantity; also timber and stone I have prepared, and you may add to them. 15  "Moreover, there are many workmen with you, stonecutters and masons of stone and carpenters, and all men who are skillful in every kind of work. 16  ‘Of the gold, the silver and the bronze and the iron there is no limit. Arise and work, and may the LORD be with you.’”

There are three encouragements that David gave to his son Solomon:  1.He encouraged Solomon by telling him that this was in the will of the Lord, and because it was in the will of the Lord for Solomon to accomplish this the Lord would give him the wisdom and strength to accomplish this project for the glory of the Lord.  Moses had actually written about this project in Deu. 12:8-:14, “8  "You shall not do at all what we are doing here today, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes; 9  for you have not as yet come to the resting place and the inheritance which the LORD your God is giving you. 10  "When you cross the Jordan and live in the land which the LORD your God is giving you to inherit, and He gives you rest from all your enemies around you so that you live in security, 11  then it shall come about that the place in which the LORD your God will choose for His name to dwell, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the contribution of your hand, and all your choice votive offerings which you will vow to the LORD. 12  "And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you and your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, since he has no portion or inheritance with you. 13  "Be careful that you do not offer your burnt offerings in every cultic place you see, 14  but in the place which the LORD chooses in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.”

Encouragement number two:  In verses eleven through thirteen David encouraged Solomon by reminding him of the faithfulness of the Lord.  David reminded Solomon not only that God was faithful to him, but also that Solomon was to stay faithful to the Law of the Lord and to remember the Law of the Lord.

Encouragement number three:  David had amassed all of the supplies to build this temple for the Lord.  It was because David was a fighting man to rid Israel of all of her enemies that enabled him to get all of the gold, silver, jewels and also the iron, and the wood, and whatever was necessary for this project.  David was a man of war, while his son Solomon would be a man of peace as this section of Scripture points out.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  David was passing on much wisdom to his young son, wisdom about how the Lord had been so faithful to him in his life, and this enabled him to encourage Solomon to lean of the faithfulness of the Lord, and he also encouraged him to keep close to the Word of God.  This was similar to what Moses did for Joshua, but the sad truth is that Joshua heeded Moses’ advised more that Solomon did David’s advice.

God has been faithful to me in my life, He has given me a great desire to stay in His Word, to continue in my devotions and has allowed me to use the things that He has taught me to tell others, and this is a great privilege for me.  I want to pass on the things that the Lord has taught me to others, especially the necessity of staying in the Word of God each and every day.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service today.

2.      Be strong by putting on the armor of God.

3.      Trust the Lord to guide my path.

4.      Continue to learn contentment.
