SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  God blessed his family

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Chron. 11:18-23

Message of the verses:  “18  Then Rehoboam took as a wife Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse, 19  and she bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham. 20  After her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom, and she bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith. 21  Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom more than all his other wives and concubines. For he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines and fathered twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters. 22  Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah as head and leader among his brothers, for he intended to make him king. 23  He acted wisely and distributed some of his sons through all the territories of Judah and Benjamin to all the fortified cities, and he gave them food in abundance. And he sought many wives for them.”

In this section the wisdom of Rehoboam can be seen in the wives that he took and in the way that he treated his sons.  The wives that he took were actually grand-daughters and great grand-daughters of King David which is not actually seen in this section of Scripture but brought up by Dr. Wiersbe in his commentary.

The wisdom of having his sons get out of the palace and begin to work is seen in this section, and this gave Rehoboam a chance to see his son’s character and how they worked and then enabled him to choose who would secede him.

Rehoboam like his father and grand-father broke the law of having more than one wife.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  It is good to see the practical wisdom that Rehoboam demonstrated in the raising of his family.  The Bible does not hide the sins of those in the OT, for they are there for believers to learn by, and so it is with my life.  I want to demonstrate wisdom in the way I conduct myself and remember that it is important to seek the Lord each day for wisdom and also in order to confess my sins to Him so that I may have fellowship with Him.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Seek the Lord to direct my path today.

2.      Seek the Lord to continue to teach me contentment.

3.      Seek the Lord to search my heart for unconfessed sin, and to remember that there are sins there to confess for I am indeed a sinner saved by the grace of God.
