The Discerning Prophet (1 Kings 14:4-6)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                          Focus:  The discerning prophet

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                            Reference:  1Kings 14:4-6

Message of the verses:  “4  Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were dim because of his age. 5  Now the LORD had said to Ahijah, "Behold, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to inquire of you concerning her son, for he is sick. You shall say thus and thus to her, for it will be when she arrives that she will pretend to be another woman." 6  When Ahijah heard the sound of her feet coming in the doorway, he said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam, why do you pretend to be another woman? For I am sent to you with a harsh message.”

“The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.” (Psalm 25:14 NIV)

“Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.”  (Amos 3:7 (NKJV)

Jeroboam sends his wife to see the prophet who told him that he would be king, and this must have been a long time ago, for now the prophet is very old and cannot see.  However there is nothing wrong with his spiritual ears, for the Lord spoke to him telling him that she was coming and why she was coming and also that He was the one who sent her to see Ahijah.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are times when I do something that I am not sure why I am doing it and it turns out fine and then I realize that the Lord has been the One guiding me.  However the Proverbs tells me that I am to do the following:  “5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Perhaps if Jeroboam would have prayed about what he was to do the Lord would have told him and he would not have had to send his wife to hear the bad news from Ahijah.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I want to trust the Lord to guide my path this day.

2.      I have a desire to continue to learn contentment.

3.      I give myself to the Lord for worship and service this day.

4.      I must remember that I am in a battle and in need of the spiritual armor.
