SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  The maneuver

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1Kings 13:7-10

Message of the verses:  “7  Then the king said to the man of God, "Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward." 8  But the man of God said to the king, "If you were to give me half your house I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water in this place. 9  "For so it was commanded me by the word of the LORD, saying, ’You shall eat no bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way which you came.’" 10  So he went another way and did not return by the way which he came to Bethel.”

One of the reasons that I enjoy studying the Scriptures the way that I do is because after reading through the Bible on a number of occasions, and knowing the stories that are in it, I sometimes do not understand these stories like I understand other stories from the Scriptures. I have said it on different occasions that Warren Wiersbe puts the cookies on the shelf where I can reach them.  The story of the man of God and this evil king is one of the stories where I am in need of the cookies on a shelf where I can reach them.

Satan tried to come at the man of God like a lion in yesterday’s SD when Jeroboam tried to hurt the man of God, while in today’s lesson Satan comes to the man of God like a serpent to deceive him when he asks the man of God to come home with him for a meal.  Why would this be so wrong for the man of God to do this?  In the east when a person sits down for a meal with another it is a sign of friendship and endorsement, and the man of God was not a friend of Jeroboam, nor was he endorsing the poison that he was peddling.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Whenever I put on the spiritual armor I put on the belt of truth first, and that item is used for protecting me with the truth and against lies.  “I’m putting on the belt of truth.  I ask You to make it very clear to me what I am to accept into my life and what I am to reject.  Help me to see clearly the motives of others as they deal with me and converse with me.  Let me walk in Your truth, making decisions and choices according to Your plans and purposes for my life.”  This quote comes from a book by Charles Stanley on the spiritual struggles of a believer and what to do to prevent these troubles.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Remember the battle that I am in and the need of the spiritual armor.

2.      Trust the Lord to guide my path this day.

3.      Continue to seek to learn contentment.   2/15/2011 5:55:59 AM
