Christ's Priesthood in the order of Melchizedek (Heb. 5:6)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

                                                                                                Date:  02-12-03

My Worship Time      Focus: Christ’s Priesthood in the order of Melchizedek

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  Hebrews 5:6

            1.  Message of the verse:  As He also says in another place: ‘You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.’”  (NKJV)  “Just as He says also in another passage, ‘THOU ART A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.’”  (NASB)  “And in another passage God said to Him, ‘You are a priest forever in the line of Melchizedek.’”

This passage gives a quote from Psalm 110:4 and speaks of the line or the order of priesthood that Christ follows after.  It is being made clear that the Priesthood of Jesus Christ in not in the order of Aaron, but because the writer is making it clear that Christ is indeed a High Priest he is laying the groundwork to show latter on in chapter seven that Christ is indeed a Priest after the order of Melchizedek.  Melchizedek was a king-priest of Salem during the time when Abraham was on the earth.  Melchizedek meet Abraham after Abraham had concurred many kings while rescuing Lot and he paid a tithe of the spoils he got to Melchizedek.  This is the background of Melchizedek and the story of this can be found in Genesis 14:18-20.  “Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.  And he blessed him and said: ‘Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.’ And he gave him a tithe of all.”

2.      Spiritual Meaning for my life today:

I think that the thing that I can learn from this passage is that God is the One who is in control of every detail that goes on, not only for my life by for everyone on this earth.  I am not say that God causes evil to happen, but He can bring good out of evil as evidenced by the cross of Jesus Christ.  Joseph also said to his brothers that they had meant it for bad, but God used it to save many people.  It would seem more logical to the Jewish people to have the Priesthood of Jesus Christ to come after the order of Aaron, but this was not God’s plan and God can do as He wishes.

The Word of God has been a challenge to me today and it was brought conviction to me today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I want to trust the Lord to continue to meet my and my family’s needs as He has so faithfully done in the past, just like He said He would.  Maybe sometime in the future He will choose not to use Haven Equity to do this.  I confess that after speaking to the girl at the bank yesterday that I anxious about the trustworthiness of Gary because of all of the things that are going on.  The Bible says to be anxious for nothing but in everything with prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God and the peace of God which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Memory verse for the week:  Colossians 4:5
