God's Answered Prayer for Jesus (Heb. 5:7)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

                                                                                                     Date:  02-14-03

My Worship Time                  Focus:  God’s answered prayer for Jesus

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Hebrews 5:7

            1.  Message of the verse:  “In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.”  (NASB)  “While Jesus was here on earth, He offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the One who could deliver Him out of death.  And God heard His prayers because of His reverence for God.”  (NLT)

First I want to give the definition of the word “from” as used in the NASB where it says “from death.”  “1) Out of, from, by, away from.”  Dr. Wiersbe says that this verse refers to the prayer that Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane and that His prayer was that His Father would save Him out of death, as the NLT interprets it.   In other words Jesus was praying that His Father would resurrect Him from the dead, which is exactly what He did for Him.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  God answers prayer as seen in this verse where He answered the prayers of Jesus while He was on earth in a human body.  There are sometimes when one has to go through pain and suffering before God answers their prayer.  My prayer would be that when I have to go through pain that I would receive the grace to endure.

The Word of God was challenging to me as I read it today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I really want this group of men to stay together and to continue to study God’s Word and principles from it.  My prayer is that God would do this and that He would mold us into a small group that will do His will and that will bring honor and glory to Him as He uses us for the cause of Christ.

Memory verse for the week:  Colossians 4:5

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
