The Word of God (Heb. 4:12)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

                                                                                                Date:  02-04-03

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  The Word of God

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Hebrews 4:12

            1.  Message of the verse:  “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”  (NKJV)  “For the Word of God is full of living power.  It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires.  It exposes us for what we really are.”  (NLT)  “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”  (KJV)

I want to take some of the words that are in this verse and give the meaning of them from the Strong’s Concordance.  1) Word, This is the same word that is used in John 1:1 that refers to the Lord Jesus Christ, the word in the Greed is Logos.  2) “A small sword, as distinguished from a large sword; 3) dividing asunder, “ 2) a separation 2a) so far as to cleave asunder or separate.”  Now I want to give the quotation from the Life Application Bible concerning this verse.  “The Word of God is not simply a collection of words from God, a vehicle for communication ideas; it is living, life—changing, and dynamic as it works in us.  With the incisiveness of a surgeon’s knife, God’s Word reveals who we are and what we are not.  It penetrates the core of our moral and spiritual life.  It discerns what is within us, both good and evil.  The demands of God’s Word require decisions.  We must not only listen to the Word; we must also let it shape our life.”

  1.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The Word of God has changed my life in a way that cannot be explained unless one knows the power of God’s Word.

The Word of God was very refreshing to me as I read it this afternoon.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I finally got over to the gas station where I bought the gas on Friday that was cheaper that it was suppose to be.  I offered to pay the amount that I believed I owed, but as I thought before I went they would not take the money, but I felt that I should at least make the offer because when I saw the price that they were advertising I agreed to pay that price.

Memory verse for the week:  1Peter 4:10

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others.
