Israel's Lack of Adequate Leadership (Judges 10:17-18)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                    Focus:  Israel’s lack of adequate leadership

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Judges 10:17-18

Message of the verses:  “17  Then the sons of Ammon were summoned and they camped in Gilead. And the sons of Israel gathered together and camped in Mizpah. 18  The people, the leaders of Gilead, said to one another, ‘Who is the man who will begin to fight against the sons of Ammon? He shall become head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.’”

The phrase in verse eighteen which says, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the sons of Ammon” is the key to this section of Scripture.  Why was there no man in Gilead to lead the people?  Dr. Wiersbe answers this question when he writes “Whether in a nation or a local church, the absence of qualified leaders is often a judgment of God and evidence of the low spiritual level of the people.  When the Spirit is at work among believers, He will equip and call servants to accomplish His will and bless His people (Acts 13:1-4).  “1 ¶  Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2  While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 3  Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

“4 ¶  So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I would suppose that the low level of leadership in our government today is due to the low level of spirituality in our country.  Now the question is do we have a low level of leadership in our church, and if we do then it is probably because of the low level of spirituality in our saints that worship there.  If we don’t like the leadership in our church because we think it the leadership is of low level then we must look at ourselves to find the answer.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. 23  Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24  And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.
