The Unopposed Leader (Judges 11:4-11)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The unopposed leader

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Judges 11:4-11

Message of the verses:  “4 ¶  It came about after a while that the sons of Ammon fought against Israel. 5  When the sons of Ammon fought against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob; 6  and they said to Jephthah, "Come and be our chief that we may fight against the sons of Ammon." 7  Then Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, "Did you not hate me and drive me from my father’s house? So why have you come to me now when you are in trouble?" 8  The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, "For this reason we have now returned to you, that you may go with us and fight with the sons of Ammon and become head over all the inhabitants of Gilead." 9  So Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, "If you take me back to fight against the sons of Ammon and the LORD gives them up to me, will I become your head?" 10  The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, "The LORD is witness between us; surely we will do as you have said." 11  Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them; and Jephthah spoke all his words before the LORD at Mizpah.”

The first thing that I want to mention is that Jephthah is mentioned in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews, and in that same verse the names of Samuel and David along with other heroes of the faith.  Jephthah is a godly man as seen in this section of Judges as he was not so concerned about being a political leader, but was more concerned with what the Lord wanted him to do.

I can’t help but wonder what it was that his brothers were thinking when Jephthah came back to town after they booted him out because his mom was a prostitute.  Joseph was rejected by his brothers and then came to save them from starvation and the Lord Jesus Christ was also rejected by His own, but will one day be saved by Him when He returns to Israel at His second coming.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I think that one of the things that I can learn from this section is not to burn any bridges with any kind of relationships or else it will be difficult to return if need be.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. I want to make sure that I pray about all of the things that are in front of me to make sure that the Lord is directing my path each and every day with every decision that I must make.
