SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                    Focus:  Samson lost his Nazirite separation

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Judges 14:5-9

Message of the verses:  “5  Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came as far as the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion came roaring toward him. 6  The Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily, so that he tore him as one tears a young goat though he had nothing in his hand; but he did not tell his father or mother what he had done. 7  So he went down and talked to the woman; and she looked good to Samson. 8  When he returned later to take her, he turned aside to look at the carcass of the lion; and behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the body of the lion. 9  So he scraped the honey into his hands and went on, eating as he went. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it; but he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey out of the body of the lion.”

As a Nazirite Samson was forbidden to drink any wine, and thus should not have gone into the vineyard and perhaps that is why the Lord sent the lion after him to warn him of doing wrong, but God in his grace did give him the strength to kill the lion.  Next after killing the lion on his way back he touched the dead body of the lion getting the honey that was in it and this caused him to break another part of his Nazirite vow.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  If Samson would have had 1 John 2:16 to read he would have seen how he fell from the temptation that he faced:  “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.”

As I looked up this verse the next verse reminded me of why I should not fall from temptation into sin because of the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life for this is what 1 John 2:17 says:  “The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.”  This tells me that all the things of this world system will someday be gone and therefore I must do the will of God through the power of the Holy Spirit who has sealed me and through the Word of God which God has given me a great love for, and by the preaching of the Word which I love to hear as I have over 3500 sermons ready to listen to on my I Pod.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Live my life in the power of the Holy Spirit doing things that count for eternity and not get caught up in the things of this worlds system.
