SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  Three Judges of Israel

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Judges 12:8-15

Message of the verses:  “8 ¶  Now Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel after him. 9  He had thirty sons, and thirty daughters whom he gave in marriage outside the family, and he brought in thirty daughters from outside for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years. 10  Then Ibzan died and was buried in Bethlehem. 11  Now Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel after him; and he judged Israel ten years. 12  Then Elon the Zebulunite died and was buried at Aijalon in the land of Zebulun. 13  Now Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel after him. 14  He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys; and he judged Israel eight years. 15  Then Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died and was buried at Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.”

There is nothing said in Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on these verses and so I want to write some things that I see in this text about these three judges of Israel.  There will only be one more judge in Israel after these three and that is Samson who was “a deliver who couldn’t deliverer himself, a conqueror who couldn’t conquer himself, a strong man who didn’t know when he was weak.”

There is very little said about these three judges in the book of Judges, as far as I can see these are the only times these three men are mentioned in the Bible, but they are mentioned because they did judge Israel.  The time frame of these judges was in excess of seventeen years, but there is no mention of anything good or anything bad that these judges did.  They did have many children and seem to be rich too.  There was peace in Israel whenever the Lord called a person to judge Israel, but after a judge died and if there was no one to replace him right away you read that again Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and that is what happened after Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died.  There is not time on how long he judged Israel.

If the spirituality of Israel was charted in the book of Judges, even though there were peaks and valleys the chart would descend from the beginning of the book until the end of the book of Judges.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I truly believe that there would be peaks and valleys in a spiritual chart of my life, but I would hope and pray, and truly want the overall of it would be going up for my desire is to grow in the Lord and to finish strong.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Continue to take steps in my walk with the Lord each day so that I will me more conformed to the image of my Lord Jesus Christ so that when I face Him at the judgment seat of Christ that I will not be ashamed.
