The Undefeated Warrior (Judges 11:29-33)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The undefeated warrior

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Judges 11:29-33

Message of the verses:  “29 ¶  Now the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, so that he passed through Gilead and Manasseh; then he passed through Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he went on to the sons of Ammon. 30  Jephthah made a vow to the LORD and said, "If You will indeed give the sons of Ammon into my hand, 31  then it shall be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the sons of Ammon, it shall be the LORD’S, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering." 32  So Jephthah crossed over to the sons of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD gave them into his hand. 33  He struck them with a very great slaughter from Aroer to the entrance of Minnith, twenty cities, and as far as Abel-keramim. So the sons of Ammon were subdued before the sons of Israel.”

The issue of the vow that Jephthah made to the Lord will be taken up in the next addition of my SD’s.  Faith is what the subject is for today, faith in the Lord that comes from the Word of God, for even though it has been discussed that Jephthah knew the Word of God, it is worth repeating it here, for he surely did know the Word of God.  1John 5:4 reads as follows:  “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith.”

It is hard not to write about the difficult vow that Jephthah made today as it seems to be what he is remembered for, where he probably should have been remembered as a man of the Lord who was filled with the Spirit of the Lord, who had great faith, and who was used of the Lord to defeat the people of Ammon, who would not be a trouble to Israel for another fifty years.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Having faith in the Lord is something that always needs to be increased as I proceed in my Christ life, my walk with the Lord and just as Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, KJV.  If my faith is to increase it has to be from studying the Word of God, something that the Lord has given me a great desire to do.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Continue to read the Word of God in order to know more about the Lord Jesus Christ, and in order to have the Lord increase my faith to do the things that He has called me to do.
