Samson the Champion with Undefeatable Power (Judges 13:24-25)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                    Focus:  The champion with undefeatable power

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Judges 13:24-25

Message of the verses:  “24 ¶  Then the woman gave birth to a son and named him Samson; and the child grew up and the LORD blessed him. 25  And the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.”

This is the second “snapshot” of Samson’s life as outlined by Warren Wiersbe in his commentary on Judges, “Be Available.”  These three snapshots are from Samson’s early life and are seen in chapters thirteen and fourteen of Judges.

The phrase “the Lord blessed him” is not seen of the other judges, and so it may mean that the Lord surely had a special type of relationship with Samson, but it is unfortunate that Samson did not cultivate that relationship with the Lord.

It is unknown the type of physical body that Samson had, for he may have looked like any other Jewish boy growing up, but on the other hand he may have had the Charles Atlas look.  It is not know when he began to acquire his strength, but it is known that his power was the result of the Nazirite vow, and part of that was not cutting his hair.

A great deal of the life of Samson is a sad commentary, but there are also good parts to his life.  Samson never lived up to his full potential.

As far as the different things that he did through his strength it was probably only a few of the things that he did.  By the way Samson’s name means “sunny” or “brightness,” and he did bring brightness to the children of Israel during the time of Philistine rule in Israel.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The Lord has been speaking to my heart about finishing my life strong in the service for Him, which is something that one might say that Samson did, but I hope that my life will not end the way his did unless that is the way the Lord has plans for my life to end.

My Steps of Faith for Today

  1. Trust the Lord to continue to give me the desire of finishing strong, and for me to follow that desire.
