SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  A nationwide drought

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1Kings 17:1

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As the LORD, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, surely there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.’”

Today’s SD begins a new chapter in Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on 1Kings and 2Chronicles entitled ‘Let the Fire Fall!”  This chapter covers chapters 18-18 of 1Kings and in these chapters the prophet Elijah comes onto the scene very rapidly and then leaves and comes again.  Elijah is a great prophet of the OT and is also seen in the NT, as John the Baptizer comes in the spirit and power of Elijah.  Many believe that it will be Elijah and Moses to return during the tribulation period as the two wittiness of the book of Revelation.  Elijah is also seen with Moses and Jesus on the Mt. of transfiguration in the 17th chapter of Matthew.

Dr. Wiersbe explains in a footnote why there seems to be a difference in the time period of the drought from the OT account to the NT account.  The early rains came in October and November and the late rains came in March and April, so Elijah probably comes on the scene in the 17th chapter of 1Kings in October when there had not been any rain for six months already and says that there will not be any more rain until he says that there will be rain.  The people were worshiping Baal because of Ahab’s wife Jezebel and so the drought was a result of their worship of Baal according to the OT Law, which they broke.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  In today’s worship of the Lord as a NT believer in God it does not always mean that if I obey the Lord that good things will happen to me as some preach.  Job did not have good things happen to him even though he was obeying the Lord.  My point is that I am to obey the Lord no matter what happens to me.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      “If you love Me keep My commandments.

2.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.

3.      Trust the Lord to guide my path today.

4.      Continue to learn contentment.
