SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  From food to unclean birds

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1Kings 17:2-7

Message of the verses:  “2  The word of the LORD came to him, saying, 3  "Go away from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 4  "It shall be that you will drink of the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to provide for you there." 5  So he went and did according to the word of the LORD, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 6  The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he would drink from the brook. 7  It happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there was no rain in the land.”

This is a rich lesson this morning as I have just read some gems from Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on this section of Scripture.

Ahab and Jezebel must have been looking for Elijah because the Lord told him to go hide himself and He would feed him with the unclean ravens as the brook Cherith where he could drink from the brook and eat the food the ravens brought to him.  Latter on the Lord would tell him to go show yourself, but this process was a step at a time and it had to be done by faith.  It also took patience on the part of Elijah.

Dr. Wiersbe writes the following:  “The Lord usually leads His faithful people a step at a time as they tune their hearts to His Word.  God didn’t give Elijah a three-year schedule to follow.  Instead, He directed his servant at each critical juncture in his journey, and Elijah obeyed by faith.”  Now when the brook dried up Elijah waited for the Lord to tell him where he was to go next and he did not leave until the Lord told him where to go.

“It has well been said that the will of God will never lead us where the grace of God cannot keep us and care for us, and Elijah knew this from experience.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I can’t help but think about the situation that we are in at this time.  We did not ask to come to Kauai, as a matter of fact we prayed that the Lord stop this whole process if it was not His will for our lives, but He only delayed it for a while as He gave me the great opportunity of telling two special people about the grace of God, and how to be saved.

There have been a few times in the last almost couple of months that I have wanted to go back home because of things and circumstances that have happened to me, but what has kept me going is the belief that this trip is all of the Lord, and now I believe this SD has reassured me of that.  I pray that God will show me His purpose of us being here and that He will lead us to the church He wants us to be a part of, and that we will continue to trust in the Lord to show us His way and His purpose for our being here.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Continue to trust the Lord to show us His purpose for being here and for the church to attend while here.

2.      Remember that we are in a spiritual battle and in need of the spiritual armor.

3.      Trust the Lord to direct my path today.

4.      Trust the Lord as I continue to learn contentment.

5.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service this day.

6.      Praise the Lord for a break from the hard work today and the grace to accomplish this task.
