SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  Strength for the journey

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1Kings 18:46

Message of the verse:  “46  Then the hand of the LORD was on Elijah, and he girded up his loins and outran Ahab to Jezreel.”

This verse ends the eighteenth chapter of 1Kings, and it ends with another powerful miracle from the Lord for his servant Elijah.  The miracle was the strength that He gave to Elijah to outrun Ahab’s chariot to Jezreel a distance of about seventeen miles.  This is the seventh miracle that this great prophet has seen from the Lord over the last three plus years and one would think that Elijah would be very high spiritually, but as seen in the next chapter this is not the case.  Dr. Wiersbe writes the following, “As great a man as Elijah was, he still failed the Lord and himself.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  This has been a great chapter from Dr. Wiersbe’s commentary on 1Kings, and chapters 17-18 of 1Kings.  The message of Elijah has been very close to my heart as some of the things that I have learned have been close to the path that I am walking on now.  It was the Lord who strengthened Elijah for the journey to Jezreel, and it is the Lord who has given me strength to do a difficult job while working in Kauai.  I am taking this by faith, the experience that I am going through here in Kauai, for as I have written before it was not all that appealing to me to come here, but I truly believe that this is the Lord’s will for my life at this time of my life and that is why I try and obey Him.  Just as Elijah was called to go tell the king that there would be no rain, and then go to the river to be feed by the ravens, and then go to the widows house to have the Lord provide for her, her son, and also Elijah were all steps of faith on his part, just as coming here was a step of faith on our part, and also obedience to the Lord’s calling.  I still wait for what the Lord has called me to do here other than work, and I still wait for the Lord to confirm to us the church He wants us to be a part of while here, but just as He called us here He will show us His plan for our lives while we are here.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Continue to wait upon the Lord for His directions.

2.      Trust the Lord to guide my path.

3.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.

4.      Continue to learn contentment.
