SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                        Focus:  Solomon worships the Lord

Bible Reading & Meditation                                  Reference:  1Ki. 9:25; 2 Chron. 8:12-16

Message of the verses:  “25  Now three times in a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to the LORD, burning incense with them on the altar which was before the LORD. So he finished the house.”

“12 ¶  Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to the LORD on the altar of the LORD which he had built before the porch; 13  and did so according to the daily rule, offering them up according to the commandment of Moses, for the sabbaths, the new moons and the three annual feasts-the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Booths. 14  Now according to the ordinance of his father David, he appointed the divisions of the priests for their service, and the Levites for their duties of praise and ministering before the priests according to the daily rule, and the gatekeepers by their divisions at every gate; for David the man of God had so commanded. 15  And they did not depart from the commandment of the king to the priests and Levites in any manner or concerning the storehouses. 16  Thus all the work of Solomon was carried out from the day of the foundation of the house of the LORD, and until it was finished. So the house of the LORD was completed.”

The text says that Solomon offered sacrifices daily and on the three annual feasts that were required of male Jews to come to Jerusalem.  These feasts were Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles.  To Christians the Passover feasts represents the death of Christ, the Lamb of God, and Pentecost represents the resurrection of Christ and the coming of the Holy Spirit, while the feast of Tabernacles represents the future regathering of God’s people in the 1000 year kingdom on this earth.

David had made instruments to worship the Lord with and also set up a schedule for the choir to sing, which Solomon fulfilled in doing this.  This was all a part of worshiping the Lord in this time in history in Jerusalem.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I can look back at some of the OT practices, and feasts, and see how they represented the Lord Jesus Christ and worship the Lord today by knowing these things and how Christ fulfilled all of them.  This is the major reason that I like to study the OT, that is because I want to see how Christ is seen at this time.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I need to remember that I am in a battle and in need of the spiritual armor.

2.      Worship is 24/7.

3.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.

4.      Continue to learn contentment.
