SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Other natural calamities

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  1Ki. 8:37-40; 2Chron. 6:28-31

Message of the verses:  “37  "If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight or mildew, locust or grasshopper, if their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is, 38  whatever prayer or supplication is made by any man or by all Your people Israel, each knowing the affliction of his own heart, and spreading his hands toward this house; 39  then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive and act and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know, for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men, 40  that they may fear You all the days that they live in the land which You have given to our fathers.”

“28  "If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight or mildew, if there is locust or grasshopper, if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities, whatever plague or whatever sickness there is, 29  whatever prayer or supplication is made by any man or by all Your people Israel, each knowing his own affliction and his own pain, and spreading his hands toward this house, 30  then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and render to each according to all his ways, whose heart You know for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men, 31  that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live in the land which You have given to our fathers.”

As I mentioned in the last couple of SD’s that Solomon knew the OT Law, especially from the book of Deuteronomy, which was supposed to be required reading for all of the Kings of Israel.  It can be seen that Solomon knew the things that are written in the book of Deuteronomy for they are all throughout his prayer to the Lord at the dedication of the temple.  The issue in this section is about natural calamities, which did occur to Israel when they sinned against the Lord latter on in their history.  All of the things that were written in the Law happened against Israel because they failed to keep the Law, the parts of the Law that the Lord made conditional to them.  The unconditional covenants could never be broken.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I must remember at all times to keep the commandments that the Lord has given in His Word.  To keep the commandments is to love the Lord and to worship the Lord, which is what my desire is, even though at times I do not fulfill that desire.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I am thankful for the messages on joy that we have been listening to by John MacArthur.  Joy is something that comes from the Holy Spirit of God and cannot be brought about by my own effort.

2.      Trust the Lord to direct my path today.

3.      Continue to learn contentment.

4.      Remember that I am in a battle and in need of the Spiritual Armor to be put on which is actually putting on the Lord Jesus Christ. “Ro 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.”
