Warning to Israel from the Lord (1 Kings 9:6-9)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  Warning

Bible Reading & Meditation                               Reference:  1Ki. 9:6-9; 2Chron. 7:19-22

Message of the verses:  “6  "But if you or your sons indeed turn away from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, 7  then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will cast out of My sight. So Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples. 8  "And this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will be astonished and hiss and say, ’Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?’ 9  "And they will say, ’Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them, therefore the LORD has brought all this adversity on them.’”

“19  "But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, 20  then I will uproot you from My land which I have given you, and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples. 21  "As for this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ’Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?’ 22  "And they will say, ’Because they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers who brought them from the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this adversity on them.’"

I know that I am not suppose to compare the nation of Israel with the Church of Jesus Christ, but there are some things that can be compared and the portion of Scripture and its fulfillment are similar to what has happened to the Church today.  The Lord tells Solomon that if those who followed him on the throne, that is the line of David would disobey the Lord and follow idols that the Lord would have this wonderful building destroyed and the people of the nations would look at it and know that it was because the nation of Israel followed after idols and not after the Lord their God.  Solomon died in 931BC and between 587-586 BC Zedekiah would rule as the last king of Israel, that is until the Lord Jesus Christ came and took up the throne of His father David, and continues to reign from heaven and will continue to reign on earth during the Millennial Kingdom that has been promised to Israel.

The comparison to the Church today is that there have been many establishments started today that named the name of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior only to fall aside and be consumed by the world system.  Many churches, colleges, and other organizations have begun with the fire of the Lord proclaiming Jesus Christ as the only way to heaven, telling others about His saving grace and are now like the temple Solomon built, in ruins

Spiritual meaning for my today:  “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you-unless indeed you fail the test?”  This verse from the end of 2Cor. is a very sobering verse, and one that I think of from time to time, and this is one of those times when I think of it.  I truly believe that I am in the faith, but there are times when I am not acting as if I am and this grieves me in great measure.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I want to completely trust the Lord in finding a car for me to drive while living in Kauai, for I believe that the Lord has already set aside a car for me.

2.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.

3.      Trust the Lord to guide my path.

4.      Remember the need to learn contentment.

5.      Remember that I am in a battle and in need of the Spiritual Armor.
