Do not Argue With False Teachers (2 Tim. 2:14)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 7-31-02

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Do not argue with False Teachers

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Timothy 2:14

Message of the verse:  “14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.”

Paul urges Timothy to remind his flock of the things that he has just written him about.  He goes on to say he wants Timothy to charge his flock not to argue with these false teachers.  The Bible warns about this in Proverbs 14:7 where is says, “7 Leave the presence of a fool, Or you will not discern words of knowledge.”  Paul writes a similar thing in this very verse.  The word for ruin in this verse is only used in 2 Peter 2:6, and Peter speaks of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah when using it there.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are times when I argue with my wife too much, and though this verse does not speak about this exactly, it does speak about arguing and that speaks to me.

The Word of God brought conviction to me today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I want to continue to pray with my wife each day, and I would hope the Lord would convict me if I do not see that this is done each day.  I do not want this to be a ritual but genuine prayer seeking the Lord’s will for our lives and to pray about other things important in our lives.

Memory verses for the week:  1Timothy 6:9

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
