SPIRITUAL
DIARY FOR 8-01-02
My
Worship Time Focus: Study the Word
Bible
Reading & Meditation Reference: 2Timothy 2:15
Message of the verse: “Be diligent to present yourself approved to
God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
truth.”
As I look at this verse, and this
verse is one that many believers have taken to memory, I think of the
illustration of how bank tellers are able to spot a counterfeit bill. The way that they can do this is to make sure
that they know everything about a real bill so that when they look at one that
is counterfeit the difference will be clear.
This takes long hours of studying the real thing. Paul is telling Timothy, and also all Pastors
that they need to take long hours in studying the Word of God, and one of the
reason is so that they can spot false teachers.
There are other reasons to do this to like being able to teach their
people the truth and to know the Word and understand it so they too can draw
closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. As this
verse states one needs to be approved to God, and that too is a reason to study
the Word. The words “rightly dividing”
mean cutting it straight, like the skill it takes to cut a board straight. The same skill is needed with the interpretation
of the Word of God. This is no small
task and it cannot be done unless one is a true believer in Jesus Christ and by
depending on the Holy Spirit to aid one’s efforts.
Spiritual meaning for my life
today: I need to take very seriously
each time that I study the Word of God, not ever taking it lightly. I need to know the truth so that false
teachers cannot cause me to fall.
The
Word of God was very instructive to me today.
My
Steps of Faith Today: Continue to seek
the will of the Lord as to whether or not to purchase the mobile home in
Florida or not. Continue to trust the
Lord to get us there safely and not have trouble with IBS. I need to trust the Lord to overcome my
fears.
Memory
verses for the week: 1Timothy 6:9
But
those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many
foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
