Paul Encourages Philemon to do what is Right (Philemon 14)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11-21-02

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Paul encourages Philemon to do right

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Philemon 14

Message of the verse:  “14 but without your consent I did not want to do anything, so that your goodness would not be, in effect, by compulsion but of your own free will.”  (NASB95)  “But I didn’t want to do anything without your consent.  And I didn’t want you to help because you were forced to do it but because you wanted to.”

Paul knew that Philemon owned Onesimus and he also wanted Onesimus to minister with him so instead of using his authority of being an apostle he wanted Philemon to do what was correct of his own free will.  Paul gave him the Biblical perspective to follow and now it was up to Philemon to do so.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The Word of God can show me the correct thing to do in certain situations but I have to yield to the Word in order to do what is correct.  I have to want what the Word teaches and then allow it to work in my heart by reading it and memorizing it and also meditating upon it and then claim it when the circumstance is right.

The Word of God was instructive and convicting to me today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  Again I need to go over to Wade’s house to help him on his project and I need the help of the Lord to be able to do this and not fear about it because of IBS.

Memory verses for the week:  Romans 11:33-36

Oh, the debt of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

“For who has known the mind of the Lord?

Or who has become His counselor?”

“Or who has given to Him

And it shall be repaid to him.

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever.  Amen.
