The Old Life (Titus 3:3)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10-31-02

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  The Old Life

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Titus 3:3

Message of the verse “3 For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.”  (NAS95)  “Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient.  We were misled by others and became slaves to many wicked desires and evil pleasures.  Our lives were full of evil and envy.  We hated others, and they hated us.”  (NLT)

Some translations us the word “ourselves” along with we, but this does not mean that every person has committed all of the sins listed in this verse, but all sinners are characterized by sin.  There seems little need to go over all of the sins that Paul has listed in this verse.  It is enough to realize that all believers were once in this same lifestyle and if it were not for the Holy Spirit using the Word of God to convict our hearts of sin and show us the way of salvation, then no one would ever come out of this lifestyle.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  It is good to remember this lifestyle that I had before the Lord saved me.  It is good to give thanks for the new life that the Lord has blessed me with, for He turned my life around so that the things that I once did in my old life are just a memory.  I am not perfect, but I am perfect in the eyes of God when He looks at me because He looks at me in Christ, and having the same righteousness that my Savior has.  This is something to praise the Lord for.

The Word of God was indeed inspiring to me as it reminded me of His wonderful mercy, love, and grace.

My Steps of Faith Today:  Not to live in fear, but in the power of the Lord, remembering those wonderful verses about not fearing life.  To walk worthy of the high calling of which I am called.

Memory verses for the week:  Romans 11:33,34:  Oh, the debt of the riches of both the wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

For who has known the mind of the Lord?  Or who has become His counselor?
