Do Not Forget, but Remember (2 Peter 1:12)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 03/11/2004

My Worship Time                                                        Focus: Do not forget, but Remember

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                    Reference:  2Peter 1:12

            Message of the verse:  “12  Because the stakes are so high, even though you’re up-to-date on all this truth and practice it inside and out, I’m not going to let up for a minute in calling you to attention before it (MESSAGE)  “12  So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.  (NIV)

            Peter is giving his readers the reason that he is writing to them in this section of his letter, which goes from verse 12-15 of this first chapter.  Peter is also saying in this section that men die, however the Word of God lives on forever.  He is reminding his readers of things that they already know, yet they still should be reminded again and again, because of the way humans are.  The message paraphrase version makes it easy to understand the first reason why Peter wrote this letter when it says, “Because the stakes are so high.”  The stakes are so high if a person is not reminded and then forgets the things of God that he should not forget and thus perhaps fall into sin because they forgot.

            Some of these things that Peter reminded his readers were what was found in the first eleven verses of this chapter, especially from verses 5-7.

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  This verse is so very important to me, because I have a hard time remembering things that I learn, and so  need to go over and over them again so that I can remember them better, so when the time comes that I need one of these truths I will remember it.  The Holy Spirit can bring about this reminder to me too, and has even promised to do so.

The Word of God has brought challenges to my life as I read God’s Word this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To trust the Lord to teach me His truths as I read and study His Word each day, so that I can bring honor and glory to Him by knowing His truths.

Memory verses for the week:  Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not upon your on your own understanding.

In all of your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.

Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and turn away from evil;

It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.
