More on Remembering (2 Peter 1:15)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 03/17/04

My Worship Time                                                        Focus:  More on Remembering

Bible Reading & Meditation                                        Reference:  2Peter 1:15

Message of the verse:  “Consequently I shall make the most of every opportunity, so that after I am gone you will remember these things.”  (PHILIPS)  “So I will work hard to make these things clear to you. I want you to remember them long after I am gone.”  (NLT)

It seemed from this writing that Peter had it in his mind that his readers remember the things that he was writing to them, so that they would not be fooled by those who would want to teach them false doctrine in the future.  He was reminding them again and again because it is easy to begin to forget these important truths that he is teaching them.

Looking at this from another prospective would be to look at how short life is, and another way to look at this would be to remember that the body of the believer is a tent or a tabernacle in which the Holy Spirit of God dwells.  This tabernacle is movable so the Lord can be shown to others while there.  Peter knew that his tent or tabernacle would soon be put away, and so that is why he wanted his readers to receive this message.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The Lord has been impressing upon my heart about worship, and one of the verses that He has been using is a verse in John chapter four where Jesus told the woman at the well that there would be coming a day, very soon, in which the believer would worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth, and not just in Jerusalem.  He, or course was speaking of the believer’s body as being the temple of the Holy Spirit, and one of the notes on this verse in 2Peter talked about our body, as being a tabernacle or tent, and that is just what the first means of worship was for the nation of Israel after God brought them out of Egypt.  Next it moved into a permanent place, the Temple in Jerusalem, and now it is in the believer’s body.

The Word of God was refreshing to my heart as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To continue to trust the Lord with the investment that we have with Andrew Leck, and to be assured that He is in control of all of the things pertaining to it.  To continue to trust the Lord with the situation at our church, believing that He has everything in His control, and that I as a member of GBC am to ask the Lord to prepare my heart for the next man that the Lord sends our way, knowing that he will be the one who will be leading this church, and will be the one whom God uses to speak to us so we can learn what the Lord has for us.

Memory verses for the week:  Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding,

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.

Do not be wise in your own eyes, Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.
