Peter Reminds his Readers (2 Peter 1:13-14)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 03/12/04

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Peter reminds his readers

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  2Peter 1:13-14

            Message of the verse:  “13  I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, 14  because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.”  (NIV)  “13 I consider it my duty, as long as I live in the temporary dwelling of this body, to stimulate you by these reminders.  14 I know that I shall have to leave this body at very short notice, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.”  (PHILLIPS)

            Peter was the human author of these two letters, and it is possible that he had a great influence on John Mark, who wrote the Gospel of Mark.  This is the Word of God, for it is now a part of our Bible, and it will last forever.  Peter says that while he is in his human body that he will continue to remind his readers of these truths, however he goes on to say that he knows that the time of his death is near.  Man will die, but God’s Word will never die.  Peter knew that he would die when he was older, as Jesus told him this, and it was recorded in the Gospel of John, and the Lord Jesus also told Peter how he would die, that he would be crucified.

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Peter knew when he would die, but this has not been made clear to me, or any other believers today.  This being true then I should have the great desire to make everyday count in my worship and service of the Lord Jesus Christ, while I am still here. Part of what I am to be doing is to read and study the Word of God each day, and to also be ready to tell others of the hope that is in me in a very non-threating way.

The Word of God was again very challenging to my heart as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To trust the Lord with everything I have, for He knows what is best for me at all times, even when I go through troubles.

Memory verses for the week:  Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.
