SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 8/10/2017

My Worship Time Focus:
PT-4 Faith Results in Spiritual Growth
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 2 Peter 1:5-7
Message of the
verses: “5 And beside this, giving
all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to
knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For
if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be
barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (AV).”
We begin this evenings SD by looking at Godliness and this means
God-likeness. In the original Greek this
word meant “to worship well.” A person
who had a wonderful relationship with the Lord is what that word
described. The Philips paraphrase
version states verse 6b “Your endurance too must always be accompanied by devotion to God.” Dr. Wiersbe writes about the character of a
person who has devotion to God “He lives above the petty things of life, the
passions and pressures that control the lives of others. He seeks to do the will of God and, as he
does, he seeks the welfare of others.
“We must never get the idea that godliness is an impractical
thing, because it is intensely practical.
The godly person makes the kinds of decisions that are right and noble. He does not take an easy path simply to avoid
either pain or trial. He does what is
right because it is right and because it is the will of God.”
This SD is a very short one as the next quality we will
be discussing is “Brotherly kindness” and there is a lot of things in that
section. Another thing is that when I
look back at the Spiritual Diaries that I wrote in 2004 on 2 Peter they begin
with verse eight and so tomorrows SD may indeed be the last one that I am
writing in 2017 for 2 Peter.
