Reflecting the True Light (Rev. 1:12)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 01/31/2005

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Reflecting the True Light

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference: Rev 1:12

Message of the verse: 12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands; (NAS95) 12 And turning to see the voice which said these words to me, I saw seven gold vessels with lights burning in them; (BBE)

This letter of the Revelation of Jesus Christ explains many of the things in it at a latter portion of the letter, as verse 12 is explained by verse 20, where it tells the meaning of the seven golden lampstands.  In verse 20 John writes that these seven golden lampstands are the churches, so it is good to look further at them.  Jesus Christ is the light of the world, as seen in John’s Gospel, and lampstands are used to give to light.  I believe the point of all of this is that the people of the church are to share the light of the gospel with those that they come in contact with, and those that come into the church building will see the light when they are there.  In Paul’s writing he too speaks of the “the light of the glorious gospel.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The only way that a church can have light in it is to have Jesus Christ be the light of it as He truly is.  In one of these letters to the churches Jesus Christ tells them if they don’t “get their act together,” that He will come and take the lampstand from them.  As a believer in Jesus Christ, and as one being a part of His Church, I am to be a reflector of the light that He gives and tell others about the true Light of the world.  I am also to help others in the body of Christ by using the gifts that He has given me.

The Word of God has given me a great challenge as I studied it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today: To be ready each day to be used of the Lord, as I am a part of the Lord’s army, and need my instructions each day so that I can carry them out through the Power of the Holy Spirit.  If I am to know what God’s will for me is each day I need to stay in His Word, and also, as Pastor instructed yesterday, I am to submit, surrender, and be transformed.  This can only happen if I stay in His Word and pray and then act upon the direction He shows me through faith.
