What John Saw Continues (Rev. 1:16)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 02/04/2005

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  What John Saw Continued

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Rev 1:16

Message of the verse:  16 In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.  (NAS95)  16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword: and his face was like the sun shining in its strength.  (BBE)

In this vision of the risen Christ, He is seen as a King, Priest, and Judge from the description that is given here.  In verse 16 there are seven stars in His right hand, and a sharp two edged sword in His mouth, and His face is shinning like the sun.  In verse 20 of this chapter the mystery of the seven stars is revealed, and they are the seven “angels” of the seven churches.  The word translated angel can mean a minister or Pastor, for its true meaning is “messenger.”  The sharp two edged sword represents the Word of God in many other places in the Bible.  In Eph. 6, which describes the spiritual armor the word is a different Greek word to describe a sword, as it is a small sword, while this one in verse 16 is a long sword or javelin.  I believe that it is fair to say that Jesus Christ will Judge the world by His Word, and therefore I think that this part of the vision is speaking of the Word of God.  The verse goes on to speak about His face that shines like sunshine.  This reminds me of when Christ was transfigured in Matthew 17, but it also reminds me of a passage in the gospel of John where Jesus said that He was the Light of the world.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Jesus Christ will not only judge the evil world, He will also judge His Church, and as I look at the verses in chapters two and three I can see that in action.

The Word of God was convicting to my heart as I read it this evening.

My Steps of Faith Today:  Continue to trust the Lord with the circumstances that I find myself in both the job and also the investment problem.  I would not have chosen this for myself, yet I know that God has a plan for my life along with Sandy’s, and He will no ever forsake me.
