My Worship Time Focus: Spiritual Richness
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference:
Revelations 2:9
Message of the verse: 9 “I know about your suffering and your
poverty—but you are rich! I know the slander of those opposing you. They say
they are Jews, but they really aren’t because theirs is a synagogue of Satan. (NLT) 9
‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy
by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. (NAS95)
Christianity
was very young at the time this letter was written and the Roman Empire did not
recognize it like they did the Jewish Religion, so when people began to get
saved they could be under persecution form both the Romans and also the Jews,
who did not accept the truth of the Christian faith. These believers could not get any jobs,
because they were believers, and therefore they were poor in material things,
but they were living for eternal values and therefore Christ calls them rich,
rich in important things that will not fade away, there treasure was in heaven.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: There is an idea going around that if a
person is a believer that God will make him materially rich, and if he is not
then there is something wrong with his faith.
This passage along with others shows that this is certainly no the
case. Even though Sandy and I have gone
through some problems in the financial area the Lord has blessed us with
Spiritual blessings that will never rust or fade away, and therefore we too are
rich.
The Word of God was challenging refreshment to my heart as I
studied it this morning.
My Steps of Faith
Today: To continue to trust the Lord
through these times when our financial future is uncertain. Trust and obey for there is no other way, to
be happy in Jesus is to trust and obey.
