SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 06/02/2006
My Worship Time Focus: Abraham’s Vow
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Genesis 14:21-24
Message of the verse: “21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, ‘Give
the people to me and take the goods for yourself.’ 22 Abram said to the king of Sodom, ‘I have
sworn to the LORD God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I will not take a thread or a sandal
thong or anything that is yours, for fear you would say, ‘I have made Abram
rich.’ 24 ‘I will take nothing except
what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me, Aner,
Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their share.’”
Abraham had
made a vow to God Most High that he would not get rich by taking things from
the battle he was about to go into and this is the reason that he told the king
of Sodom what he told him in verses 22-24.
As stated in an earlier SD, Sodom
represented the world system and Melchizedek represented the God Most High, for
he was a priest and king of the God Most High, so Abraham did not have a
problem giving a tithe to him, but took nothing for himself.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: I have never really had a lot of problems
giving to the Lord what I have felt that He wants me to give to him with the
exception of when our investments with Andrew Lech were coming in and then
decided to give to the Lord so that He would continue to bless me with the
benefits of our investments with Andrew Lech, and I have been convicted of this
and have confessed this to the Lord. I
want to give to the Lord in a Biblical way and I believe part of that is
listening to the Holy Spirit for directions in order to give special gifts over
and above our tithes we give to the Lord at GBC and also the gift we give to
Todd and Cindy. I want to have the
attitude that Abraham had in this section and that is not get rich from the
world system and give to the Lord God Most High as He leads me and do it in a
way that is pleasing to Him, for it is a privilege to give to the Lord that He
will even accept my gifts.
The Word of God has been refreshing to my heart as I read
and studied it this morning, and it has also been a challenge and conviction to
my heart.
My Steps of Faith
Today: Continue to trust the Lord to
provide for my family and to continue to be taught contentment by Him with a
spirit that is teachable, and also trust the Lord to give me the grace I need
each day to live a life that is pleasing to Him. Trust the Lord with Sandy’s parents.
