God Answered Abraham concerning His Many Descendants (Gen. 15:4-5)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 06-09-2006

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  God tells Abraham to look

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Genesis 15:4-5

Message of the verse:  “4  Then behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ‘This man will not be your heir; but one who will come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir.’  5  And He took him outside and said, ‘Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’”
God answers back to Abraham by telling him that their would be a son that would come from his own body and he shall be his heir, and not only that but Abraham would have so many descendants that he will not be able to count them like the stars in the sky or the sand on the seashore.  Now God did not say to Abraham that his descendants would be as many as the stars and the sand, but just as no one can count how many stars there are so no one will be able to number Abrahams descendants.  Now whenever Abraham would get discouraged all he would have to do is look up at the stars and then remembers this great promise that God has given to him.  His descendants would also include all of the spiritual sons and daughters, which include all the church.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The Bible is full of promises that are given to the believer in Jesus Christ.  Not all of them will be fulfilled while upon this earth, but the greatest promises is that because God has forgiven all of our sins through Jesus Christ then all believers will one day be with the Lord in heaven for all of eternity.

The Word of God has been refreshing to my heart as I read and studied it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I want to be thankful to the Lord that I am his child and not only his child but His heir.
