Abraham's sin is still causing troubles today. (Gen. 13:1-4)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 05/17/2006

My Worship Time                                                         Focus:  Abraham’s Sins Continued

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Genesis 13:1-4

Message of the verse:  “1 So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.  2 Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold.  3 He went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,
4 to the place of the altar which he had made there formerly; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.”

Dr. Wiersbe in his book on this part of Genesis has stated that the Christian life is a series of new beginnings, and this is what happened to Abraham and Sarah as they went back to the tent and back to the altar that he had made to worship the Lord from.

It is hard to believe that this journey of sin that Abraham and Sarah took those many years ago still has an affect on people today, including those in my family.  While in Egypt Sarah was given an Egyptian handmaid named Hagar who would eventually become the mother to the son of the twelve tribes of the Arabs and Abraham would be the father to the the twelve tribes of the Arabs.  The Arab world has an effect on most people in the USA because of the oil that we by from them today and the price of gasoline that we have to pay today for it.

While in Egypt Abraham was not a blessing to those in Egypt and that is what he was suppose to be to the entire world, but because of sin Abraham was not a blessing to them and even lost his testimony to them because of his lie.  He became rich while down there and this eventually divided he and Lot because of their riches were too much for the land to handle and so Lot went down to Sodom and this was very tragic on he and his family and eventually to the children of Israel.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Stay close to the Lord and when I sin go back to where I was before the sin and continue to worship the Lord.  Continue to trust the Lord to guide me and to direct my paths each day of my life and trust Him to do that.

The Word of God has been a challenge to my heart and also has been convicting to me as I read and studied it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I want to remember these very important things that I have been learning from the life of Abraham in order to live a better Christian life.  I want to trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment and to give me the grace I need each day and also to direct my path.
