SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time:                            Focus:  Esau’s Genealogy

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  Genesis 36  (All)

Message of the verses:  I have read that when the book of Genesis was written that the genealogy’s of those who were not the believer’s, like in this case Esau were given before those of the one’s that God had chosen.  The next chapter speaks of the genealogy of Jacob, which is Esau’s brother.

All that is given in chapter thirty-six is names of the descendants of Esau, who became the nation of Edom or the Edomites.  These people would continue down throughout the history of the Old Testament be a thorn in the side of Israel and would all eventually die off so that there are no Edomites alive in the world today, but there are many descendants of Jacob alive today.

God said that when Rachel was pregnant with both Jacob and Esau that He had chosen Jacob and not Esau, which shows the sovereignty of God in action.  It is latter on said that God had chosen Jacob but hated Esau, and I suppose that this was said after all of the trouble that the Edomites had given to Israel.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I do not pretend to understand all that is wrapped up in the Sovereignty of God, however I am always amazed at the Grace of God through which he saved me and therefore I do not need to understand all that is wrapped up in the Sovereignty of God, but be thankful for what God has done to me and continues to do for me each and every day of my life.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I will be the first to say that this year did not go well at all for our family, and that I did not handle all of the things well that went wrong for us, but this I do know that I worship a Sovereign God who loves me and uses all things that come into my life for good even though at the time they do not seem good, and uses these things to conform me more and more like His Son and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
