What Moses Saw

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time              Focus:  What Moses saw

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 3:1-4

          Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Now Moses was pasturing the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.  2  The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not consumed.  3  So Moses said, "I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight, why the bush is not burned up."  4  When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am.’”

          I think that it is interesting that Moses and the Lord Jesus Christ spent time on a mountain at least three times.  Let me explain: When speaking of the angel of the Lord in the OT it is referring to the Lord Jesus Christ before He comes to the earth as a baby, so Moses was up on the mountain here with the Lord Jesus Christ.  He was also up on the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments later on in the book of Exodus, and when Jesus went up to the mount of transfiguration Moses was there with Him again on a mountain.

          Dr. Wiersbe points out that this burning bush could actually be a picture of Israel, for Israel would be persecuted but never burned up.  This ordinary bush which God sets on fire but is not consumed could also be a picture of what God had planned for Moses’ life, for Moses was indeed a weak bush that God would make an empowering fire.

          Spiritual meaning for my life today:  God has placed His Holy Spirit in my life to empower me and to lead and guide me and to make me what He wants me to be.  I was an ordinary man age twenty-six when God came into my life and began to work a great miracle by giving me new life and placing His Holy Spirit in my life because I became one of His children.  Now according to Eph. 2:10 God has work for me to do for His kingdom and so He has taken this ordinary sinful man and changed him into something He can empower and use.  “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I want to be available to God for the work that He has for me to do, not just today but everyday.

Memory verses for the week:          2Cor. 12:9-10

9.      As He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”  Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weakness, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

10.   Therefore I am well content with weakness, with insults, with distresses, with persecution, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Review of former memory verses:              Philippians 1:9-11

9.    Now this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,

10.so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;

11.   having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
