SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  Calling Mephibosheth

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Samuel 9:5-8

Message of the verses:  “5  Then King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar. 6  Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and prostrated himself. And David said, "Mephibosheth." And he said, "Here is your servant!" 7  David said to him, "Do not fear, for I will surely show kindness to you for the sake of your father Jonathan, and will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul; and you shall eat at my table regularly." 8  Again he prostrated himself and said, "What is your servant, that you should regard a dead dog like me?’”

I just love how Dr. Wiersbe takes passages like this one and shows the picture of something in the NT, and in this case how God called us to Himself through His Son Jesus Christ.   Mephibosheth told David that he should regard him as a “dead dog,” and this is what the Jewish people called gentiles.  There was a woman whom Jesus spoke to who was a foreigner and He called her a dog because she was not of the nation of Israel, but never the less Jesus spoke to her after her persistence and healed her daughter and I would believe called her to salvation.
Mephibosheth was given all the land that Saul owned which is what it cost David, but as believers in Jesus Christ it cost God His Son in order for us to be saved, to be called into the family of God.  This is a beautiful picture that David, a man after God’s own heart shows us from his life.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There is nothing that I don’t owe the Lord because He purchased me and gave an undeserving sinner like me new life, something that I could never earn or deserve.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Begin to show grace and mercy to others.
2.      Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
3.      Trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment.
4.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
5.      Trust the Holy Spirit to continue to teach me from His Word and to convict me of any unconfessed sin.
6.      Put on the Spiritual armor to be protected by the Lord.

7.      Seek the Lord to help me take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
