SPIRTUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  Finding Mephibosheth

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Samuel 9:1-4

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Then David said, "Is there yet anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?" 2  Now there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba, and they called him to David; and the king said to him, "Are you Ziba?" And he said, "I am your servant." 3  The king said, "Is there not yet anyone of the house of Saul to whom I may show the kindness of God?" And Ziba said to the king, "There is still a son of Jonathan who is crippled in both feet." 4  So the king said to him, "Where is he?" And Ziba said to the king, "Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel in Lo-debar."

Today’s SD begins the third main point in the chapter “David’s Dynasty, Kindness, and Conquests,” which is the forth chapter in Dr. Wiersbe’s commentary on 2Samuel and parts of 1Chronicles.  These chapter divisions go along with the chapters in 2Samuel and so this is about chapter nine.
As I begin to read these verses I got a sense of the word “king” as it is repeated many times throughout this chapter.  My thoughts were that perhaps the Lord designed or perhaps allowed kings to be in existent in forms of government in order to show a picture of who the Lord Jesus Christ is, and that is King of kings, and Lord of lords.  Dr. Wiersbe’s direction on his commentary in the section prior to writing on “finding Mephibosheth” that the word king is mentioned six times in this section and ‘king David” is mentioned one time and David is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ and his actions towards Mephibosheth is a picture of what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for lost sinners at the cross giving them the “kindness of God” when they do not deserve it.  David’s name means “beloved” and Jesus is God’s beloved Son as God spoke to Him at His baptism and when He was transfigured on the mountain top.

I like so much what Dr. Wiersbe wrote of the picture of David calling Mephibosheth and what it means today for believers in Jesus Christ:  David couldn’t show any love or kindness to Jonathan, so he looked for one of Jonathan’s relatives to whom he could express his affection.  So it is with God’s children:  they are called and saved, not because they deserve anything from God, (Eph. 1:6; 4:32).  God in His grace gives us what we don’t deserve, and in His mercy doesn’t give us what we do deserve.”
David get the information about Mephibosheth from Saul’s estate manager Ziba who will latter betray both Mephibosheth and David.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  If I could only show the grace and mercy that God showed to me on others more often it would be a wonderful experience.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Begin to show grace and mercy to others.
2.      Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
3.      Trust the Lord to continue to teach me contentment.
4.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
5.      Trust the Holy Spirit to continue to teach me from His Word and to convict me of any unconfessed sin.
6.      Put on the Spiritual armor to be protected by the Lord.

7.      Seek the Lord to help me take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
