SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  David establishes a new capital

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  2Sam. 5:6-10; 1Chron. 11:4-9

Message of the verses:  “6 ¶  Now the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, and they said to David, "You shall not come in here, but the blind and lame will turn you away"; thinking, "David cannot enter here." 7  Nevertheless, David captured the stronghold of Zion, that is the city of David. 8  David said on that day, "Whoever would strike the Jebusites, let him reach the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul, through the water tunnel." Therefore they say, "The blind or the lame shall not come into the house." 9  So David lived in the stronghold and called it the city of David. And David built all around from the Millo and inward. 10  David became greater and greater, for the LORD God of hosts was with him.
“4  Then David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there. 5  The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, "You shall not enter here." Nevertheless David captured the stronghold of Zion (that is, the city of David). 6  Now David had said, "Whoever strikes down a Jebusite first shall be chief and commander." Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became chief. 7  Then David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore it was called the city of David. 8  He built the city all around, from the Millo even to the surrounding area; and Joab repaired the rest of the city. 9  David became greater and greater, for the LORD of hosts was with him.”

There is certainly not enough time to write everything about Jerusalem in this SD, but I do want to report some things never the less.  Jerusalem was on the border of Benjamin and Judah and the first two kings came from Benjamin and then Judah and they each had their capitals, actually Saul’s son Is-Bosheth had his capital at Mahanaim, and David had his capital at Hebron.  God has told Moses that there would be a place where He would chose to have a place of worship, and also that Israel was to rid the Promised Land of all of their inhabitants of which were the Jebusites.  David became angry when the Jebusites said that even the blind and the lame could defeat David because of where Jerusalem was located, on top of a hill with three valleys surrounding it.
David gave the position of leader of his army to the one who would go up and conquer Jerusalem and his nephew Joab was the one who did this.
Jerusalem would be the capital of Israel and even is so today, and there is still trouble over Jerusalem to this day.  The most important thing that happened in Jerusalem was that outside of its gates the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified for the sins of the world, therefore making my salvation secure of which I will ever be thankful and praise the Lord for.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  “David became greater and greater, for the LORD of hosts was with him.”  This is what I want to focus in on this morning that the Lord of hosts was with David.  The Lord of hosts in the person of the Holy Spirit is with me and will never leave me and because of this there are wonderful truths and wonderful things that are mine because I am in Christ Jesus.  My part in all of this is to remain faithful to the Lord no matter what the Lord brings upon my path, for He has promised to direct my path.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Trust the Lord to direct my path today.
2.      Trust the Lord as I go to the meeting this morning and face some men who will probably be upset with me because I chose to leave GBC.
3.      Trust the Lord to show Kim and Tim the problems that are going on at GBC.
4.      Trust the Lord to protect me in the battle that is going on in my life with the spiritual armor that he has supplied for me to wear, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit.
5.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
6.      Trust the Lord to show me any unconfessed sin in my life so that I may confess it to the Lord and repent of it.
