SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The second attempt

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  2Sam. 6:12-23; 1Chron. 15:1-16:2

Message of the verses:  “12 ¶  Now it was told King David, saying, "The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, on account of the ark of God." David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with gladness. 13  And so it was, that when the bearers of the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling. 14  And David was dancing before the LORD with all his might, and David was wearing a linen ephod. 15  So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouting and the sound of the trumpet. 16  Then it happened as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart. 17  So they brought in the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. 18  When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offering, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts. 19  Further, he distributed to all the people, to all the multitude of Israel, both to men and women, a cake of bread and one of dates and one of raisins to each one. Then all the people departed each to his house.
“20 ¶  But when David returned to bless his household, Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, "How the king of Israel distinguished himself today! He uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants’ maids as one of the foolish ones shamelessly uncovers himself!" 21  So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel; therefore I will celebrate before the LORD. 22  "I will be more lightly esteemed than this and will be humble in my own eyes, but with the maids of whom you have spoken, with them I will be distinguished." 23  Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.

I have chosen not to copy and paste the verses from 1Chronicles because of the length of them, but will read them and copy and paste this SD to the verses in the Online Bible.
This is a very long section with many similar verses involved here.  The portion from 1Chronicles is from the viewpoint of the priests and gives greater insight to some of the spiritual matters here.  Verse thirteen of 1Chronicles fifteen has much to say about how David came to the conclusion that what he did first of all in bringing the Ark up was wrong:  “13  "Because you did not carry it at the first, the LORD our God made an outburst on us, for we did not seek Him according to the ordinance.’”  David was speaking of the Levites here as they did not carry the Ark of God as was instructed by God in the Law of Moses.
David showed much fear of the Lord in this section as when the Levites began to carry the Ark after the first six steps there were sacrifices offered in order to see if the Lord would be pleased with how they were going to bring the Ark of the Lord to Jerusalem.  It was obvious that the Lord was going to bless their efforts unlike the first time when they were doing it man’s way, but this time they were doing it God’s way.
David heard that the Lord had blessed the household of Obed-Edom while the Ark of God was with him and so David wanted the Lord’s blessings on the whole nation and on his household too, and this is why David would attempt this again.  It is understandable that David had much fear because of what happened the first time when they tried to bring it up, but David knew that in the OT Law of Moses that God would eventually choose a place for the Ark to dwell permanently and David must have believed it was in Jerusalem. “5 ¶  "But you shall seek the LORD at the place which the LORD your God will choose from all your tribes, to establish His name there for His dwelling, and there you shall come.”  This is from the twelfth chapter of Deuteronomy and there are other verses in that chapter speaking about this as well as in chapters fourteen and sixteen and also in chapter twenty-six.  “1 ¶  "Then it shall be, when you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance, and you possess it and live in it,
2  that you shall take some of the first of all the produce of the ground which you bring in from your land that the LORD your God gives you, and you shall put it in a basket and go to the place where the LORD your God chooses to establish His name.”
David was dancing before the Lord as the Ark was being brought up and in the book of 1Chronicles it says that David was dressed like a priest, but he was also dressed like a king underneath those clothes.  Dr. Wiersbe points out that this pictures the Lord Jesus Christ who is Priest and King.
Michal, Saul’s daughter and David’s first wife was offended by what David was wearing and by what he was doing and David was in return offended at her offence and this seems to be the end of their physical relationship as the text says that she died without having any children, something that was very important to the women of Israel.  Michal was acting like her father who was lacking in spiritual things and as said by David in 1Chronicles 13:3 Saul did not want to bring up the Ark of the Lord.  There is another reason why Michal did not have any children by David as this would have continued the line of Saul and the Lord would not have this as seen when Jonathan was killed in battle with his father.  The line of David must be pure as the Messiah; the Lord Jesus Christ would be born in the linage of David.
When Abraham meth Melchizedek after defeating the kings who kidnapped Lot, he offered Abraham bread and wine, and this pictures the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, and now David gives the people bread and as Dr. Wiersbe points out they could have received some wine too.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I have copied and pasted 1 Chronicles 15:13 showing the repentance of David, showing that David was quick to repent when he had sinned against the Lord and then doing the right thing.  This shows that David was a man after the heart of God and this is what my desire is to be.  It is a process, but my heart must be that way all of the time even though my actions are not always that way.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
2.      Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
3.      Trust the Holy Spirit to search my heart to see any offences I have committed so that, like David, I can confess them to the Lord.
4.      Put on the whole spiritual armor of God to be protected and to walk righteously before the Lord.
