SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Absalom followed Ahitophel’s counsel

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  2Samuel 16:20-23

Message of the verses:  “20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give your advice. What shall we do?" 21 Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Go in to your father’s concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; then all Israel will hear that you have made yourself odious to your father. The hands of all who are with you will also be strengthened." 22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel. 23 The advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if one inquired of the word of God; so was all the advice of Ahithophel regarded by both David and Absalom.”

It must be remembered as I begin this SD that Ahithophel was the grandfather of Bathsheba, and although the counsel that he would give was very good as explained in verse twenty-three there was another motive in giving this counsel and that was revenge for the violation of Bathsheba and also the death of her husband Uriah.

Another point in this story is that Absalom was taking advice and counsel from mere men and not from the Lord as his father David did on most occasions, for David would use the Urim and Thummim or seek the Lord through one of His prophets.

Nathan had prophesied that because David slept with Bathsheba in private that David’s wives would be slept with in public and that is what the advice of Ahithophel was and so they set up a tent on the palace roof for this to happen the same palace roof where David lusted after Bathsheba.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  When making decisions seek the face of the Lord through much prayer and counsel from godly people who care about me.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Trust the Lord to continue to guide my path today and I would pray that He would have others come onto my path like Monday that I may share the good news with.

2.      Trust the Lord to bring about the right outcome for the job on Kauai, may His will be done.
