SPIRITUAL DIARY
My
Worship Time Focus: The Lord acknowledges David’s faith
Bible
Reading & Meditation Reference: 2Samuel 15:24-29
Message of the verses: “24 ¶
Now behold, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him carrying the
ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar came
up until all the people had finished passing from the city. 25 The king said to Zadok, "Return the ark
of God to the city. If I find favor in the sight of the LORD, then He will
bring me back again and show me both it and His habitation. 26 "But if He should say thus, ’I have no
delight in you,’ behold, here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to
Him." 27 The king said also to
Zadok the priest, "Are you not a seer? Return to the city in peace and
your two sons with you, your son Ahimaaz and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
28 "See, I am going to wait at the
fords of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me." 29 Therefore Zadok and Abiathar returned the ark
of God to Jerusalem and remained there.”
This
SD begins the last main point in Dr. Wiersbe’s commentary in this seventh
chapter of his commentary on 2Samuel.
The main point is “Jehovah—Israel’s sovereign King.”
I
suppose that I should not be amazed at how the Lord uses my time with Him to
speak to me in just the right time in just the right way, and today when I
truly needed a Word from the Lord He was there and I praise His great and holy
name for how much He cares for me one who really has nothing in and of myself
to make Him accept me and give me His mercy, grace, and love.
This
season of my life has been very difficult not only for me, but for my wife and
other members of our family and so as I study the time in David’s life where
Dr. Wiersbe described it as David’s darkest hour, I am learning how this
wonderful man of faith handled that season in his life, and David penned a
number of Psalms which are called “exile” Psalms and as he was leaving
Jerusalem during this time to see if the Lord was going to allow him to return
to the kingdom that the Lord had given to him, he stops and talks to the priest
who were carrying the Ark of God and to some surprise he tells them to return
to Jerusalem and return the Ark of God to Jerusalem and for them to be his eyes
and ears while he was gone. Looking into
the future these priest were the ones who did bring a message to David that
would aid him at just the right time.
There
was a time in the history of the Ark of God when it was used by the son’s of
Eli as a good luck charm and so David would not have any part of that, for his
trust was in the Lord wholly.
As
I listened to the seven short Psalms that Dr. Wiersbe points out could have
been the Psalms that David sang during this most difficult time I can
understand how they gave him strength and would encourage him. Perhaps these are the very Psalms that David
wrote for such a time like this.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: This SD is a bit different than others, in
that there is not a whole lot of explain the portion of Scripture that is in
it, but this seems to be what is needed at this time in my life. I want to copy the portion that Dr. Wiersbe
has written at the beginning of this third major point in this chapter for this
section as it has great meaning for me.
“When you read David’s exile
psalms, you can’t help but see his trust in God and his conviction that no
matter how disordered and disturbed everything was, the Lord was still on His
throne. No matter how David felt, he
knew that the Lord would always keep His covenant and fulfill His promises. Psalm 4 might well have been the song David
sang to God that first evening away from home, and Psalm 3 what he prayed the
next morning. In Psalms 41 and 55, he
poured out his heart to the Lord, and the Lord heard him and answered in His
time. Psalms 61, 62, and 63, allow us to
look into David’s troubled heart as he asks God for guidance and strength. Note that each of these three psalms ends
with a strong affirmation of faith in the Lord.
We today can have
courage and assurance in our own times of difficulty as we see how the
Lord responded to David and his great needs.”
My
Steps of Faith for Today:
1. I
want to be more like David, trust the Lord to give me strength and wisdom in
order to get through these difficult times.
