SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  Friends cared for David

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  2Samuel 17:24-29

Message of the verses:  “24  Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him. 25  Absalom set Amasa over the army in place of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab’s mother. 26  And Israel and Absalom camped in the land of Gilead. 27  Now when David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim, 28  brought beds, basins, pottery, wheat, barley, flour, parched grain, beans, lentils, parched seeds, 29  honey, curds, sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David and for the people who were with him, to eat; for they said, ‘The people are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness.’”

It is sad that in this upcoming war it would be between father and son, uncle against nephew, cousin against cousin, and citizen against citizen, and this was what happens in a civil war.  Amasa was Absalom’s commander of the army and he was David’s nephew and the cousin of Joab.

It is also interesting that David got supplies from those in Ammon and others of his friends who knew that David would need supplies for those who were with him.

David’s troops would be vastly outnumbered but they had the Lord on their side and if Absalom would have been thinking in a spiritual mode instead of a selfish mode he would have realized that he would never win this war for the Lord had not chosen him to take over the kingdom of Israel in place of his father David, but the Lord had chosen Solomon and therefore that was what was going to happen no matter how outnumbered Absalom’s troops were over David.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I know that the Lord has a plan for my life just as He had a plan for the life of David and for the kingdom of Israel and Judah.  I also know that it is probably true that the plan that He has for my life is not as significant as the plan that He had for David’s life, that of being the line in which the Messiah would be born into the world, however it does give me great comfort to know that the Lord does have a plan for my life.  Now with that said I want to say that if part of the plan for my life is to send me to Kauai and work there is nothing that will stop it just as there was nothing that stopped and undermanned army led by Joab to lose to his cousin’s army.  Now on the other hand if it is not the will of the Lord for us to go to Kauai then nothing can happen to change that either.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I trust the Lord to direct my path today as I seek to walk with Him and for the cause of Christ.

2.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service this day.

3.      Trust the Lord to (if is His will) to work on the heart of Andrew Lech in order for him to send to us the money he owes us.
