SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  The Lord meets David’s needs

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  2Samuel 16:1-4

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Now when David had passed a little beyond the summit, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him with a couple of saddled donkeys, and on them were two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred clusters of raisins, a hundred summer fruits, and a jug of wine. 2  The king said to Ziba, "Why do you have these?" And Ziba said, "The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride, and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine, for whoever is faint in the wilderness to drink." 3  Then the king said, "And where is your master’s son?" And Ziba said to the king, "Behold, he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, ’Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.’" 4  So the king said to Ziba, "Behold, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours." And Ziba said, "I prostrate myself; let me find favor in your sight, O my lord, the king!’”

In this section Ziba is on the scene again.  Ziba was the man who cared for some of Saul’s property and later was taking care of Mephibosheth who was Jonathan’s son and who was crippled in both feet.  He brought to David some donkeys and also food for his journey which David was thankful to the Lord for.  The problem was that Ziba was deceiving Mephibosheth by doing this and in his hast to repay Ziba David made a great mistake by giving the land that was owned by Mephibosheth to Ziba, something that would come up later in chapter nineteen when David returned as king.  Proverbs 18:13 reads as follows, “He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him.”  This is what happened to David.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I can attribute this mistake that David made to being in a hurry and not thinking about what Ziba said and then hastily giving Mephibosheth’s land to Ziba.  Being in a hurry to make a decision is something that I have had to work on all of my life and so when it came to this job offer in Kauai I tried to make it my purpose to pray about it and get the blessing from the Lord before I would totally commit to going.  And now perhaps the Lord is going to close the door and with that closing is the matter of a lease that I signed to rent a house in Kauai for twelve months hanging over my head.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Completely trust the Lord to work out all of these details of this possible up coming job.
