Solomon Begins his Address (1 Kings 8:12-13)

12/30/2010 9:15:22 AM

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The mystery of God

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  1Kings 8:12-13; 2Chron. 6:1-2

Message of the verses:  “12 ¶  Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud. 13  "I have surely built You a lofty house, A place for Your dwelling forever."

“1 ¶  Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud. 2  "I have built You a lofty house, And a place for Your dwelling forever.’”

Today’s SD begins the second main point in Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on 1Kings, “Be Responsible,” and as I look over it there are two sub-points  under this main point entitled “A house of testimony.”

The way that Solomon starts his address seems a bit odd, but whenever one studies it then it is not as odd as it seems.  Solomon is reporting to the Lord what he has done, and what he has done was finish the work that he was given by God to finish.  He is speaking about when Moses was leading the people of Israel to Mt. Sinai and the Lord was in a dark cloud or a thick cloud in order for the people not to be able to see Him, but to be able to hear Him.  The reason for this was because God cannot show Himself to a man and then that man continues to live for the glory of the Lord is so magnificent that His sight will cause death to anyone who sees him unless His glory is shrouded.

Moses finished building the tabernacle, and our Lord finished the work that God gave Him to do.  John the Baptist finished the work that he was assigned by the Lord, and Paul finished his work.  Solomon has now finished his work that was given to him by the Lord, to build the temple.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  God has given me work to do as seen in Ephesians 2:10, work that was given to me to do before the foundation of the earth was formed.  I want to finish the work that He has given me to do that I may bring honor and glory to the Lord.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Trust the Lord to show me the work that He has for me to do and then empower me with His Holy Spirit to do this work that He may receive the glory for the job He has empowered me to do.

2.      Remember we are in a Spiritual Battle, and in need of the Spiritual Armor.

3.      Continue to learn contentment.

The Glory Came Down (1 Kings 8:10-11; 2 Chron. 5:11-14)

12/29/2010 7:48:09 AM

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The Glory came down

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  1Kings 8:10-11; 2Chron. 5:11-14

Message of the verses:  “10  It happened that when the priests came from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11  so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.”

“11 ¶  When the priests came forth from the holy place (for all the priests who were present had sanctified themselves, without regard to divisions), 12  and all the Levitical singers, Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and kinsmen, clothed in fine linen, with cymbals, harps and lyres, standing east of the altar, and with them one hundred and twenty priests blowing trumpets 13  in unison when the trumpeters and the singers were to make themselves heard with one voice to praise and to glorify the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice accompanied by trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and when they praised the LORD saying," He indeed is good for His lovingkindness is everlasting," then the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud, 14  so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.”

This section is all about the glory of the Lord and that phrase is seen many times in the OT and I believe it is first actually seen in Exodus 16:7 “and in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, for He hears your grumblings against the LORD; and what are we, that you grumble against us?’”  The glory of the Lord can be followed throughout the entire Bible as it is seen here in Exodus and then when the tabernacle is built the glory of the Lord fills the tabernacle.  It is the cloud or glory of the Lord that lead Israel throughout the wilderness for forty years and then the glory of the Lord left the tabernacle in 1Samuel when Eli was the high priest, but now it returns in the temple that Solomon builds.  Ezekiel saw the glory of the Lord leave the temple in a vision and he also saw it return in the kingdom temple, but in the mean time the Lord Jesus would bring the glory of the Lord to earth: John 1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”  The glory of the Lord was surely seen on the mount of transfiguration.  The glory, in the form of a cloud left with Jesus Christ as seen when He went back to heaven.  The glory in the form of the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost and He indwells all true believers, and also is seen in the local church, “16 ¶  Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”  The glory can be seen in the universal Church as well, (Ephesians 2:19-22).  Dr. Wiersbe writes:  “Until Jesus comes to take us to the eternal glory, our privilege and responsibility is to bring glory to Him as we serve here on earth.  Each local assembly, worshiping the Lord in spirit and truth, should manifest the glory of the Lord (1Cor. 14:23-25).

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There can be only on spiritual meaning for my life today, and for every day and that is to bring glory to the Lord through my life here on earth.

When Jesus Christ was baptized the Holy Spirit filled Him without measure, for He could handle that filling, however the Spirit of God does not fill me without measure because I could not handle that kind of filling.  I know that the Holy Spirit filled me with a greater filling a week before Thanksgiving in 2003 at 4:30 in the morning and I am not quite sure how much He filled me but I know that I was different, and still am because of that filling, but I must say that that was even difficult, but very much enjoyable for me and would welcome that again whenever He wants to fill me again.

It is my honor and my job to live a life that will bring honor and glory to my Lord and my prayer is that I will do so.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Remember that I am in a battle and in need to put on the Lord Jesus Christ for that is what I do when I put on the Spiritual armor.

2.      Live my life so as to bring honor and glory to the Lord.

3.      Continue to learn contentment.

4.      Seek to have the Lord direct my path.

Solomon Has The Ark Brought Into the Temple (1 Kings 8:1-9)

12/28/2010 9:10:08 AM

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The Ark was brought in

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  1Kings 8:1-9; 2Chron. 5:1-9

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶ Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ households of the sons of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the city of David, which is Zion. 2  All the men of Israel assembled themselves to King Solomon at the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. 3  Then all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. 4  They brought up the ark of the LORD and the tent of meeting and all the holy utensils, which were in the tent, and the priests and the Levites brought them up. 5  And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who were assembled to him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen they could not be counted or numbered. 6  Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the most holy place, under the wings of the cherubim. 7  For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim made a covering over the ark and its poles from above. 8  But the poles were so long that the ends of the poles could be seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen outside; they are there to this day. 9  There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt”

“1 ¶  Thus all the work that Solomon performed for the house of the LORD was finished. And Solomon brought in the things that David his father had dedicated, even the silver and the gold and all the utensils, and put them in the treasuries of the house of God. 2  Then Solomon assembled to Jerusalem the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ households of the sons of Israel, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion. 3  All the men of Israel assembled themselves to the king at the feast, that is in the seventh month. 4  Then all the elders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark. 5  They brought up the ark and the tent of meeting and all the holy utensils which were in the tent; the Levitical priests brought them up. 6  And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel who were assembled with him before the ark, were sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. 7  Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the holy of holies, under the wings of the cherubim. 8  For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim made a covering over the ark and its poles. 9  The poles were so long that the ends of the poles of the ark could be seen in front of the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen outside; and they are there to this day.”

This SD begins the fourth chapter in “Be Responsible” which is Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on 1Kings.  He entitles this chapter “God’s House and Solomon’s Heart.”  The first main point from this chapter is entitled “A House of God,” and it has two sub-points under it of which the first will be looked at in this SD.

Dr. Wiersbe points out that his belief is that the dedication of the temple took place in the twenty-fourth year of Solomon’s reign, and that it also took place during the time of the feast of Tabernacles.  This was a wonderful time to bring in the Ark of the Covenant to the House of God for it was the Ark that led the people throughout their forty years of wilderness wonderings.  Inside the ark were only the two stone tablets that Moses received from the Lord that had the Ten Commandments on them.  The manna and Aaron’s rod that budded were not need in the Ark at this time for they pointed to a time of rebellion and now Israel was settled in their land and had a new beginning.

When the Ark was brought into the Holy of Holies it set under the two cherubim’s that Hiram had made to go into the Holy of Holies.  The two cherubim’s that were on the Ark of the Covenant looked at each other while the other two looked into the holy place, and so Dr. Wiersbe writes the following to describe this:  “The cherubim on the original golden mercy seat looked at each other, while the new cherubim looked out toward the Holy Place where the priest ministered.  The angels of God not only ‘look into’ the mysteries of God’s grace (1Peter 1:112), but they also behold the ministry of God’s people and learn about God’s grace (1Cor.4:9; 11:10; Eph. 3:10; 1Tim. 5:21).”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As a member of the body of Christ I have the Holy Spirit living in me for the Scriptures declare that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and therefore the angels are now watching me and all other believers to learn about God’s grace.  I am sure that there are times in my life that I have disappointed both the Holy Spirit and also the angels that are watching me, but on other occasions perhaps the angels have seen God’s grace working in me.  This is surely the goal for me in my life.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I want to remember that I am in a Spiritual battle and in order for me to be able to stand I am in need of the Spiritual armor for when I put on the Spiritual Armor I am in reality putting on Christ and it is He who protects me and enables me to stand.

2.      Continue to learn contentment.

3.      Seek to have the Lord direct my path today.

Miscellaneous Utensils Used in Temple Worship (1 Kings 7:40-50)

12/27/2010 5:11:39 PM

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The miscellaneous utensils

Bible Reading & Meditation                                Reference:  1Kings 7:40-50; 2Chron. 4:7-8, 11-22

Message of the verses:  “40  Now Hiram made the basins and the shovels and the bowls. So Hiram finished doing all the work which he performed for King Solomon in the house of the LORD: 41  the two pillars and the two bowls of the capitals which were on the top of the two pillars, and the two networks to cover the two bowls of the capitals which were on the top of the pillars; 42  and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks, two rows of pomegranates for each network to cover the two bowls of the capitals which were on the tops of the pillars; 43  and the ten stands with the ten basins on the stands; 44  and the one sea and the twelve oxen under the sea; 45  and the pails and the shovels and the bowls; even all these utensils which Hiram made for King Solomon in the house of the LORD were of polished bronze. 46  In the plain of the Jordan the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarethan. 47  Solomon left all the utensils unweighed, because they were too many; the weight of the bronze could not be ascertained.

“ 48 ¶  Solomon made all the furniture which was in the house of the LORD: the golden altar and the golden table on which was the bread of the Presence; 49  and the lampstands, five on the right side and five on the left, in front of the inner sanctuary, of pure gold; and the flowers and the lamps and the tongs, of gold; 50  and the cups and the snuffers and the bowls and the spoons and the firepans, of pure gold; and the hinges both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, that is, of the nave, of gold. 51  Thus all the work that King Solomon performed in the house of the LORD was finished. And Solomon brought in the things dedicated by his father David, the silver and the gold and the utensils, and he put them in the treasuries of the house of the LORD.”

“7  Then he made the ten golden lampstands in the way prescribed for them and he set them in the temple, five on the right side and five on the left. 8  He also made ten tables and placed them in the temple, five on the right side and five on the left. And he made one hundred golden bowls.

“19  Solomon also made all the things that were in the house of God: even the golden altar, the tables with the bread of the Presence on them, 20  the lampstands with their lamps of pure gold, to burn in front of the inner sanctuary in the way prescribed.”

There were a lot of little utensils needed to make the offerings and take care of all that is needed to make this run smoothly.  There were snuffers for the lamps, and bowels to take care of the blood for offerings, there were pots to boil the meat that was used for the peace offerings, and there were shovels to take care of the ashes and other items used.  The building was very expensive to make and to maintain but it was the place where the glory of the Lord was, making all of this worthwhile.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I was looking at the commentary from Dr. Wiersbe on this the thought came to me that even though all of these materials were somewhat insignificant to those who were not using them they were needed to perform the worship of the Lord.  It is the same with people in the body of Christ today, for there are many who are seemingly insignificant but have rolls that are in great need.  I think of my mother who has prayed many times for many people and sent cards to those who are in need and this makes me realize her usefulness in the body of Christ.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Continue to realize that I am in a battle and in need of my spiritual armor.

2.      Realize that I do not have to do the “big” things in the body, but do the things that the Lord has gifted me to do.

Finishing the Temple PT-3 (1 Kings 7:48-49) (2 Chron. 4:7-8, 19-20)

12/26/2010 9:11:04 AM

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  The golden lampstands and tables

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference: 1Kings 7:48-49; 2Chron. 4:7-8, 19-20

Message of the verses:  This is actually the third part of “Furnishing the temple” which is the fourth main point in Warren Wiersbe book “Be Responsible,” his commentary on 1Kings.

“48 ¶  Solomon made all the furniture which was in the house of the LORD: the golden altar and the golden table on which was the bread of the Presence; 49  and the lampstands, five on the right side and five on the left, in front of the inner sanctuary, of pure gold; and the flowers and the lamps and the tongs, of gold.

This setup in the temple was different than in the tabernacle that Moses constructed, for that only had one lampstand, while the temple had ten, five on each side.  There was only one table for the showbread in the tabernacle, where there are ten in the temple.

The lampstands provided light for the priests to do their work while in the holy place.  There must have been bread on each of these tables that were in the temple.  Jesus said that he was the light, and He also said that He was the bread of life so one can see the “shadows” in the temple of which Jesus Christ was the real One that the temple looked forward to have.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  When man first sinned in the garden God put in place the plan, (which was put in place from eternity past) to bring those He had chosen for salvation to salvation.  That plan all along was sending the second Person of the Godhead onto the earth in the form of a man.  Jesus Christ is the God/man who paid for my sins and satisfied the wrath of an angry God.  From Genesis 3:15 on the Scriptures give pictures of who the Messiah was and what He would do, and the study of the tabernacle and the temple are pictures of Jesus Christ the Messiah and are well worth studying in order to see these pictures.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I want to be controlled by the Holy Spirit of God so that I can fulfill the commands that are in the Scriptures so that my life will bring honor and glory to my Lord and King.

2.      Trust the Lord to continually teach me, and for me to learn contentment.

3.      Remember that I am in a great battle and in need of all the Spiritual armor.

4.      Trust the Lord to guide my steps and my path today.  12/26/2010 9:31:52 AM

Finishing the Temple PT-2 (1 Kings 7:13-51)

12/24/2010 9:38:27 AM

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                 Focus:  Finishing the temple PT-2

Bible Reading & Meditation                                    Reference:  1Kings 7:13-51; 2Chron. 4

Message of the verses:  Today’s SD will continue with some of the articles that are in and around the temple that Solomon built.

The golden incense altar (1Kings 6:20, 22; 7:48):  “20  The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in height, and he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid the altar with cedar.  22  He overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. Also the whole altar which was by the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold.

“48 Solomon made all the furniture which was in the house of the LORD: the golden altar and the golden table on which was the bread of the Presence.”

I have again inserted this diagram of the temple in order to see where the articles and rooms were inside the temple.  The altar of incense is right in front of the lamp stands, just before the door and the veil that separates the holy place with the holy of holies.  It was used to burn incense every morning and every evening as the priests cared for the trimming of the lamps.  There was a certain mixture that was given to Moses by the Lord for this incense, and it was only to be used for this purpose.  There is no size of the altar of incense given, so it is not know exactly how large it was, but it was overlaid with gold.  The burning of the incense is a picture of the prayers of God’s people and this can be seen in the book of Revelations along with Ps. 141:1-2, Luke 1:8-10.

“On the Day of Atonement, the high priest applied blood to this altar to cleanse and purify it (Exodus 30:10).  Without ‘clean hands and a pure heart’ (Psalm 24:3-5), we can’t approach the Lord and expect Him to hear and answer prayer (Psalm 66:18; Hebrews 10:19-25).”

I want at this time to copy and paste the verses that are referenced in the above paragraph:

Psalm 24:3-5, “3 ¶  Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place? 4  He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully. 5  He shall receive a blessing from the LORD And righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6  This is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face-even Jacob. Selah.

Psalm 66:18 “18 If I regard wickedness in my heart, The Lord will not hear.

Hebrews 10:19-25 “19 ¶ Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21  and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22  let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24  and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25  not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I thought that perhaps I might be able to finish this chapter this morning, but since these kind of things have happened to me in the past I tried to leave room for the Spirit of God to show me how much I would finish today, and He seemed to stop me with this Altar of Incense.  The verses written above are convicting to me along with Psalm 139:23-24 which say, “23  Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24  And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”

I suppose that there are far too many times in my life when I think that I have it all together and I am not sinning, but those verses in Psalm 139 seem to draw me back to have the Holy Spirit search my heart to see if there are any unconfessed sins in my life, for the older that I am in the Lord and the more that I learn from the Spirit’s teaching through His Word the more awful I see myself.  I think of Isaiah in chapter six and how he fell down before the Lord saying that he was a man of unclean lips and would die because he saw the Lord.  Isaiah was a believer and I’m sure that he was walking with the Lord, and yet when he approached the Lord and His holiness he thought he would die.  Daniel and John along with Peter and James when they saw the Lord Jesus Christ transformed into who He was out of a human body they fell down before Him as they were dead.

The point in all of this is that I am a sinful creature who at times am too proud to allow the Spirit of God search my heart to make sure that I am walking in fellowship with the Lord in order to have my prayers heard by the Lord.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      23  Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24  And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.

2.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.

3.      Continue to learn contentment.

4.      Remember that I am in a battle and in great need of the spiritual armor.

5.      Trust the Lord to guide and direct my steps.

Finishing the Temple (1 Kings 7:13-51)

12/23/2010 5:24:14 AM

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                 Focus:  Finishing the temple

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                Reference:  1Kings 7:13-51; 2Chronicles 4

Message of the verses:  This is the fourth and last main point in Dr. Wiersbe’s commentary on 1Kings, the third chapter, and it has six sub-points in it.  He begins his commentary on this fourth main point with the following, “The furnishings of the temple were important to the priests, for without the divinely ordained furniture, they couldn't do their ministry or pleas the Lord.”

The brazen altar (2Chron. 4:1):  “1 Then he made a bronze altar, twenty cubits in length and twenty cubits in width and ten cubits in height.”

The laver or molten sea (1Kings 7:23-26; 2Chronicles 4:2-5, 10):  “23  Now he made the sea of cast metal ten cubits from brim to brim, circular in form, and its height was five cubits, and thirty cubits in circumference. 24  Under its brim gourds went around encircling it ten to a cubit, completely surrounding the sea; the gourds were in two rows, cast with the rest. 25  It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east; and the sea was set on top of them, and all their rear parts turned inward. 26  It was a handbreadth thick, and its brim was made like the brim of a cup, as a lily blossom; it could hold two thousand baths.”

“2  Also he made the cast metal sea, ten cubits from brim to brim, circular in form, and its height was five cubits and its circumference thirty cubits. 3  Now figures like oxen were under it and all around it, ten cubits, entirely encircling the sea. The oxen were in two rows, cast in one piece. 4  It stood on twelve oxen, three facing the north, three facing west, three facing south and three facing east; and the sea was set on top of them and all their hindquarters turned inwards. 5  It was a handbreadth thick, and its brim was made like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom; it could hold 3,000 baths.

“10  He set the sea on the right side of the house toward the southeast.”

This laver or molten sea was to the left side or the southwest side of the temple and it was used for washing, because the priests would become defiled when offering the sacrifices and they must remain clean or this could have caused their death, This sea set on twelve oxen, three in each direction, and they could have represented the twelve tribes of Israel.

“In the Scripture, water for drinking is a picture of the Spirit of God (John 7:37-39), while water for washing is a picture of the Word of God (Psalm 119:9; John 15:3; Eph. 5:25-27).”  Dr. Wiersbe goes on to write the following, “As the priests labored for the Lord in the temple, they became defiled and needed to be cleansed; and as we serve the Lord, we too can become defiled and need the ‘washing of water by the word.’  Jesus pictured this truth in John 13 when He washed the disciples’ feet.”

The ten stands and lavers (verses 27-39; 2Chronicles 4:6):  “27  Then he made the ten stands of bronze; the length of each stand was four cubits and its width four cubits and its height three cubits. 28  This was the design of the stands: they had borders, even borders between the frames, 29  and on the borders which were between the frames were lions, oxen and cherubim; and on the frames there was a pedestal above, and beneath the lions and oxen were wreaths of hanging work. 30  Now each stand had four bronze wheels with bronze axles, and its four feet had supports; beneath the basin were cast supports with wreaths at each side. 31  Its opening inside the crown at the top was a cubit, and its opening was round like the design of a pedestal, a cubit and a half; and also on its opening there were engravings, and their borders were square, not round. 32  The four wheels were underneath the borders, and the axles of the wheels were on the stand. And the height of a wheel was a cubit and a half. 33  The workmanship of the wheels was like the workmanship of a chariot wheel. Their axles, their rims, their spokes, and their hubs were all cast. 34  Now there were four supports at the four corners of each stand; its supports were part of the stand itself. 35  On the top of the stand there was a circular form half a cubit high, and on the top of the stand its stays and its borders were part of it. 36  He engraved on the plates of its stays and on its borders, cherubim, lions and palm trees, according to the clear space on each, with wreaths all around. 37  He made the ten stands like this: all of them had one casting, one measure and one form. 38  He made ten basins of bronze, one basin held forty baths; each basin was four cubits, and on each of the ten stands was one basin. 39  Then he set the stands, five on the right side of the house and five on the left side of the house; and he set the sea of cast metal on the right side of the house eastward toward the south.

“6  He also made ten basins in which to wash, and he set five on the right side and five on the left to rinse things for the burnt offering; but the sea was for the priests to wash in.”

It first can be noted that these basins were very beautiful, but also very useful, for each held 230 gallons of water and they were on wheels, like a wagon.  They were set on each side of the temple, five to a side, but could be move around where they were needed, as they were used to wash the sacrifices.  The water must have come from the large laver or sea.

Dr. Wiersbe writes of these lavers the following, “It’s worth noting that these very practical and useful stands were also very beautiful, which teaches us that God sees beauty in holiness and the holiness of beauty (Ex. 28:2; Psalms. 29:2; 96:6, 9; 110:3).”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The book of Hebrews teaches about OT pictures that have become reality since Jesus Christ came to earth to die for the sins of the world, and these pictures are seen in today’s SD.  I can learn a lot from these articles that were in and around the temple, and the temple itself.  I learn that Jesus Christ was the sacrifice made for my sins, and that I have the Holy Spirit living in me to keep me clean.  I learn that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives within me.  I can also learn that I am to be a living sacrifice, which is holy and acceptable to the Lord and is my reasonable service and worship to the Lord who loved me enough to die for me in order to pay for my sins.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.

2.      Trust the Lord to direct my path.

3.      Trust the Lord to work out the details of our trip to Hawaii.

4.      Remember that I am in a battle and in great need of the spiritual armor that the Lord has provided for me as I am in the battle.
