SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  The scholar

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1Kings 4:29-34

Message of the verses:  “29 ¶  Now God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind, like the sand that is on the seashore. 30  Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt. 31  For he was wiser than all men, than Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was known in all the surrounding nations. 32  He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005. 33  He spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that grows on the wall; he spoke also of animals and birds and creeping things and fish. 34  Men came from all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.”

In these six short verses is learned some of the intelligence of Solomon and it was truly great.  However many of the things that Solomon wrote, including many of his proverbs and songs and also the scientific truth that is spoken of in these verses are now lost.  The books written by Nathan, Ahijah, and Iddo (2Chron. 9:29) are lost forever and so it is unknown what are in them.

People from all around the known world came to hear Solomon speak and I am sure were hoping to gain some kind of wisdom and education from him, for he was known throughout the known world during his lifetime.

It is said that Solomon probably walked with the Lord from the time that he took the throne all the way through the time when the temple was completed, but then as Alexander Whyte expressed so vividly in his commentary, “the secret worm… was gnawing all the time in the royal staff upon which Solomon learned.”   When you go against the Law of the Lord you will have troubles, for the Law was not only to show the holiness of the Lord, but it was there to protect people from falling into the traps set by the world, the flesh, and the devil.  Solomon did not follow God’s law and had to pay the price.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I believe that the enemy of my soul tries to make out the Law of the Lord as something that was given by the Lord to stop all fun, for this can be seen in the scene in the garden while talking to Eve.  God desires to protect me through following His Law, to give fulfillment to my life and not to take away any fun.  It is said of Moses in the book of Hebrews 11:24 “By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25  choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26  considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward.”  These are verses that I want to make true in my life through the power of God’s Holy Spirit who has been given to me when I became a believer and who will remain with me until I am safely home with my Lord and Savior.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      I want to remember that I am in a battle and that from time to time it rages higher than at other times, but there is still a battle going on and I am in need of the spiritual armor, the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the Gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit.

2.      The Lord is with me always even to the end of the ages, where there will be a new heaven and a new earth and a New Jerusalem.

3.      To continue to learn contentment.

4.      To trust the Lord to guide my path today.

5.      To give myself to the Lord for worship and service this day.
