SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  The builder

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1Kings 3:1b

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Then Solomon formed a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her to the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the LORD and the wall around Jerusalem.”

In this section from “Be Responsible” Dr. Wiersbe focuses in on the different building projects that Solomon built beginning with the temple of the Lord and then his own palace.  He also mentions the houses in the forest of Lebanon where Solomon stored arms to protect Israel.  There was the hall of pillars, and the Hall of Judgment he also built.  Solomon also built walls around the city of Jerusalem that was called “Millo” “a protective wall or embankment that David had begun to build (2Samuel 5:9).”

Solomon also dealt in horses and he got many of them from Egypt.  Solomon was required to read the book of Deuteronomy because he was king and in it there are law against having many wives and also having horses and chariots, for the trust of the king should be in the Lord and not in horses and chariots.

Dr. Wiersbe finishes this section with these words:  “During Solomon’s reign, the outward splendor and wealth of Israel only masked an inward decay that led eventually to division and then destruction.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I suppose that one of the things that Christians today put their trust in instead of the Lord is their possessions, and their money thinking that this will take care of them.  One thing that the Lord taught me and to be honest I am still learning is that I am to trust the Giver of the gifts and not the gifts that the Giver entrusts me with. My things, my possessions and my money cannot own me, for I am only as steward of these things and will give an account of how I handled them in the future.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Trust the Giver of the gifts and not the gifts.

2.      Continue to learn to be contentment.

3.      Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.

4.      Remember that I am in a battle and in need of keeping the spiritual armor on.
