SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  David the realist Pt. 1

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1Kings 2:1-4

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  As David’s time to die drew near, he charged Solomon his son, saying, 2  "I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong, therefore, and show yourself a man. 3  "Keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, according to what is written in the Law of Moses, that you may succeed in all that you do and wherever you turn, 4  so that the LORD may carry out His promise which He spoke concerning me, saying, ’If your sons are careful of their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’”

In these verses David was charging his son to “Put the Lord first.”  This is the name of the first sub-section from Warren Wiersbe’s commentary, which is from the third main section in this first chapter of his commentary.  He begins this section writing about how David was preparing Solomon to take over as the next king of Israel and the first thing that he reminds him is to seek the Lord first and remember that the Lord made a covenant with David to keep one of his sons on the throne of Israel and so be sure to obey the Lord in all that He did and to find out how this can be achieved by knowing the Law of the Lord.

“David knew that Israel had a ministry to perform in providing the vehicle for the promised Redeemer to come to earth, and the future of God’s redemptive plan rested with Israel.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  The Messiah that is spoken of above has already come to the earth as we celebrate His incarnation at this season of the year, and so the promise to David has come true and I am living on the other side of the cross, however I am still to follow the Law of the Lord and seek to do what pleases him just as David charged his son Solomon to do, so that part has never changed.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      This has been a difficult morning and I need to make sure that my spiritual armor is in place.

2.      Trust the Lord to see me through this Lord’s Day, and bring glory to Him.

3.      Continue to learn contentment.
